Last three times I've been to Pavillions, he's not been around. I asked up there and someone said they believed he was ill.

I have "spoken" via email with Dave. He's fine, just staying inside because of the summer heat.

Are you sure it was Dave? The only way to know for sure is a face to face. It could have been Gloria telling you he is fine when she has him tied up in the closet. Just sayin.
