Bill....sorry to see and hear about your FFR. Are you OK? Any bumps and bruises? Where is the car going to get repaired and what is the total $$$ repair estimate. Always sad to see a beautiful car with body damage. Hope you are OK.

Gordon Levy 05-10-2012 11:38 AM

Dave, I had one damaged simular to that the day after he took delivery.
That may be tough to fix. FFR isn't making anything but mark 4 bodies and the last time I checked they weren't selling clip, only entire bodies.
I actually have a lot of the parts to fix that.

Gofastoldguy 05-10-2012 01:13 PM

Mike...I'm OK, just a bruised left calf muscle from hitting the door hinge. Good size hematoma but it has gone down now. Car is at Scott's Coachworks in Phx on 7th Ave.
I think Stuart's Camaro is there also. It was just a situation of not being 100% alert and seeing the traffic ahead of me stopped. I feel more upset for Stuart's Camaro than the Cobra...had one myself.
As Gordon noted above FFR may not be able to furnish front clips for this Mk II. The Mk IV body has unique frame I believe.
Note to Gordon: I will pass on your info to the adjuster. I looks like the front birdcage tubing and front clip is major damage. Steering wheel and turn signal are bent but everthing else seems to be OK but we'll see. I would think six months to repair.
Talk to you later. Bill

mikiec 05-10-2012 01:19 PM

Bill,

I will sell you my car for 50K to use as a parts car. OK 45K. Last offer.

Glad to see that you guys are pretty much o.k., but hate to see the crunched cars, I know how THAT feels.:(

Maricopa 05-10-2012 02:04 PM

That FFR build's one stout car. :3DSMILE:

Hope Stuart was able to eventually get his hand of the trunk.

Karl Bebout 05-10-2012 06:57 PM

I think Stuart must like the feel of steel firmly against his skin.

Gofastoldguy 05-10-2012 07:23 PM

In order for me to think about your offer, my thoughts will cost you $200.
Thx, Bill "Crash" Bryan

Mike Brasfield 05-10-2012 09:38 PM

Bill, I would contact FFR and see if the MKIV body will fit on the old frame. Call Dave Smith and see if he can some up with something.

Gofastoldguy 05-10-2012 11:06 PM

Mike,
The Mk IV has its own frame for that body only. They may total the car anyway.

Bill

I see that Ken Pike painted your car..I know for a fact that he has several MK3 bodies laying around his shop..Some have front damage and some have rear..He would just graft on a nose from a rear collision car to you existing body..If the front tubes are straight then it is fixable and Ken would be worth calling.. I will be going to the F5 open house this year ask this question in person "What does it take to put a MK4 body on a Mk3 frame..Dave

mikiec 05-11-2012 01:14 PM

Mike,

I asked about that. The new MK4 will not fit any previous frame, it has to do with the Bird Cage and mounting points. I thought about getting the newer body for my MK1.

Bill, if they total you can build one of the new ones.

Mike

jetsbaby 05-12-2012 10:55 PM

Factory 5 still makes and sells the MK3 body.. Straight from their web site..

Mike Brasfield 05-13-2012 07:53 AM

If totaled the MKIV is a really a nice looking body. Ken Pike (Street-rod-painter) is also a great idea. I'd help you trailer it up to his place if you pay the gas and you could fly back to pick it up. Why is the insurance company considering "total"?

dave from mesa 05-13-2012 12:16 PM

Got a trailer you can use.

Mike Brasfield 05-13-2012 01:10 PM

Thanks Dave.

Hey, not so fast Bub.

Mike Brasfield 05-14-2012 12:24 PM

bill...I just talked with Ken Pike. As you know he repaired this FFR and painted for you. He say, "no problem, I can fix this. I will section the front under the doors and replace any bird cage or frame (x-member) issues and have it back on the road. Should be around $20,000". He also said he will be glad to send you or your insurance company a quote. He talked with you at the H.B. show, so he knows your car well.
