So you think you can drive??
I am giving a shout out to ALL "Cobra" replica drivers out there to come this Sunday to Firebird and run some auto-x with me..It is a special event and should be fun..I am the only Cobra replica that ever shows up! :( I know its mothers day so bring the wife and the mother..:)
Here is the link.. Special Autocross Event, May 13th, 2012 Event Details |
So what class is your car run in? What items are the Tech Boys looking for and what are the most common violations or items needed to pass Tech Inspection? Does the run course have anything like tire barriers or walls you can hit if you run off the course? What will it cost for me to make my first lap = registration , membership, entrance fee and so on? THANKS Jeff C

2. Tech is super easy..Mainly looking for bolt down battery..Carb return spring..AND no NO2 on site AT ALL..Won't let you race..You need a helmet BUT if you don't own one they have loaner helmets for free to use. Anything loose in the cabin and trunk must be removed.. 3. We mainly run in an open parking lot with no parking light poles or anything to hit..The only thing that you can hit is a traffic cone..If you are worried about paint scuffs..Blue painters tape on the front will take care of that..This is a special event so I heard that it will be on one of the road courses of FireBird or Bondurant own..It will be "neutered down". Straights are cut down and you really can't go that fast..Second gear is what I usually get into.. A Lot of turns and braking here..This is my second year and go often. Never seen a car wreck..This special event draws A LOT of people with six figure cars..High end Porsche, BMW and Ferrari's are a common site..These people don't want to wreck their cars and would not show up if that did happen..So can you crash?..I guess any thing is possible BUT highly unlikely.. 4. How much..If you are a member of the SCCA..Registration Fee SCCA Members: $20 Pre-Registration, $30 at Event IF YOU ARE NOT A MEMBER Registration Fee Non-Members: $30 Pre-Registration, $35 at Event You DO NOT have to join the SCCA if you just want to come out and play once in a while..So if you clink on the link I provided and pre-register..30 bucks..If you just show up the day of..35 bucks..That's it..No parking fees or entrance fee..I hope I answered all of your questions..Dave |
Tried Auto X once. Not my cup of tea. Years ago we tried to get a bunch of cars together for autoX.. No takers. Got more takers for running the road course with PASA and NASA.
However, have fun. |
Sounds super fun, but i don't have a cobra, do they have loaner cars with the helmets.%/
|
I think the Tucson guys do autocross.

Thanks Dave,
You did answer all my questions. Sounds like this would be a lot of fun and is affordable until you got hooked. Many years ago I did a little xcross with a 66 Vette roadster. Ran BP and remember even just keeping good tires on her kept me eating PB & J as a steady diet. Always found a way though LOL. thanks again Jeff C |
jetsbaby...I do autocross and was invited by Tuscon John to come down for a Corvette cross one day. It was a good course and the Corvette guys were fun. I may try to make it out but unsure of "mothers" plans right now. Have fun. Keep you eyes open for a PIR NSAS track day. That's really fun. I don't much like the Fire Bird road course but PIR is really fun.

Mike Brasfield,
There are no more PIR track days. When they repaved the track for NASCAR, the infield section was eliminated. NASA does not run there any longer. Jet - I'm not into the autocross stuff, but am planning to go to Inde (near Wilcox) on the weekend of May 26, with PASA. Nice track (2.7 miles or something like that), nice folks, hopefully nice weather. A couple Cobras will be there, so you should come on out |
I heard that PIR ripped out the infield..That is a bummer..I never heard of PASA, do you mean NASA?
|
No, not NASA - PASA. Pro Autosports. proautosports.com They're a little looser group than NASA (I am a member of both). No post-run download sessions with PASA and self-tech. Both NASA and PASA run the same tracks now mostly. NASA does run Chuckwalla in CA a couple times a year and PASA sometimes runs Arroy Seca in NM, but otherwise its the four configs at Firebird and then Inde -and AMP, if you can pass the sound check, which I cannot. BTW, NASA ran Inde last weekend I think - my car was down so I couldn't make it, but am planning Inde with PASA at the end of this month to put the final nail in the coffin for this set of tires. New tires for the fall.
