Dead optima batterie

I have 2dead optima 6 volt batteries that are wired together and mounted behind the passenger seat that finally gave up the ghost on my cobra and can't seem to find anyone that carries those batterers anymore. Any ideas where I can find them?

Summit racing products for mail order or I would think your local speed shop.

CSX'er I took a quick look on line and found several places that sell Optima batteries in the valley and also on line, with free shipping. Copperstate Batteries, O'Reilly's, Napa, Batteries Plus, etc. Most likely have to be ordered in, since they are the 6v and in that case, you'd probably do much better on line.

At least this isn't a Roush caused problem. Praise da Lord!

...and it's not Bush's fault!

While O'reilly's and auto zone carry optima batteries, this particular part number doesnt come up even as a special order. I hadn't though of Summit or other internet companies as I prefer to buy local but will look up the part today. Wondering if becuase it is almost 5 years old if the part numbers have changed for their 6 volt now. Existing part number 8010-044 and Summit's only 6 volt option is part number 9010-044. Direct replacement with new part number perhaps?

I have two motor cycle batteries down in noise that work just fine - batteries plus

You could also use two 12's in parallel. The optimas need a minimum voltage to take a charge, especially on the old school chargers. You can hook another twelve volt battery up to them in parallel to initiate the charging then disconnect it.

Duh! I forgot there was a batteries plus 5 minutes from my house. 1 phone call and a 5 min car ride and picked up the last 2 they had in stock. I guess the originall ones were made in USA and Optima now is made in Mexico but I am back on the road.
Thanks

I use Optima batterys. They are 12v wired in parallel. They went flat and charged ok. I now use a battery maintainer.

I originally got mine from Costco. They had too many problems with them and quit selling them.

I'm expecting my ERA kit in a few weeks and am filling in the waiting time looking into various details - like batteries. I'm getting the trunk battery option, so am locked into a gel or AGM battery. I've read about issues with the Optima batteries since they moved manufacturing to Mexico, but still see very little chatter about using other batteries. I did see one thread that listed some alternatives, including Sears Die-Hard AGM battery. Sounds like a good alternative to me and maybe a better battery at this point. Anyone know any better? If so, I'd like to hear about it.

Regards,

Kevin

kevins2, in your area batteries probably last about 3 to 4 years. Out here in the desert 30 months is a reasonable battery life. I would suggest that you buy a battery from a nationwide business, ie, Wal-Mart, Sears, NAPA, if your battery dies in the middle of a trip you will need close access to a store and a reliable warrenty.
