Who has a gopro

Got one from Chistmas. Took it on the run and the video is great. The sound is crappy. Absolutly no motor sounds. I think what I hear is the fuel pump. Any ideas?

Are you using the open back or the sealed one? Where was it mounted?
Rollbar mount will give you more wind noise than anything else.
Try using the suction cup and tuck it in right next to the windshield with the open back.

I've had one for a year or two. I put it behind me in the center with the suction cup for track events. I think I had to leave the seal in and put it on LO for sound (can't remember i that is senstivity or not). I get OK sound at WOT on the track, but anything less than that, then not much sound. Wind is just too hard on them in a cobra. Now if you mount it to your door close to the pipe, it may over power the wind noise. I haven't tried that though.

I thought the new ones might have an external jack for a microphone. If so, if you can plug in mic of some sort, just lay it in the floorboard, and you'll get great sound and no wind.

Same same me Mikie. Mine always sounds like the diff is coming apart. I'm going to try the suction cup on the dash next weekend.

I've had the motorsports edition for about 6 months. Still playing around, but also looking for better sound. Here's a clip with it mounted to roll bar.... http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/k...=FirstRide.mp4

Only way I get any sound is to put it on the dash directly behind the windshield with the open back, but then you get the glare. One thought that I have had is to use a small mp3 recorder in the car and sync the sound with software!

Been trying to get them to put a mic jack on them for some time. They are not interested as of yet.

Jack, The sound from your unit seems acceptable. Which back case are you using?

Hotfingrs 01-02-2013 07:19 AM

Dan, I had the open back on.

Cashburn's Backdraft video's on his Vintage Motorsports website always seem to have good sound quality. I might be wrong but I think he uses a GoPro with an external microphone sat on the transmission tunnel to avoid the wind noise distortion.

lots of buffeting from the roll bar, if I could get the wind noise out at this location it would be perfect!!!

With it on the roll bar it did not sound like that. No pipe sounds at all.

I had the closed back on. I'll try the open back and see if it makes a difference. I have the suction cup on order.

Mulv 01-02-2013 04:47 PM

I have one and it hears just fine through either the open or closed back.

the second one is outside on the suction cup and on the hood - it is at least 8 feet ahead of the exhaust...

check your settings old chap :o

Using an external mic is really the only way to get good engine sound while driving. This example had a small mic sticking out the bottom of the passenger door at the forward position facing aft. The camera was mounted on the rollbar. No wind noise but you can hear a little tire-on-pavement sound. I used a Zoom H4 portable digital recorder and synched up later in post production. The new Heros have an external mic input I understand, so you wouldn't need a separate recorder now.

Damn, Benny, those new pipes sound good. Bet your neighbors enjoy your early morning runs.
