Those new video cameras

Thinking of getting one but any of you guys made any videos of our past outings. Want to review sound etc

Karl Bebout 05-19-2013 04:44 PM

Fitz, you'll probably want to get a tripod....for the bed room scenes.

Karl's got a good point, get HD as those big bottom shots under the covers can eat all of the screen. Make sure you can just hit a button and go, having to work the camera may ruin the moment.

Karl,
Fitz already has 3 tripods**):JEKYLHYDE**)

Would that be like a filmed monologue?

Karl Bebout 05-20-2013 08:28 AM

"Would that be like a filmed monologue?"

Maybe more like a "filmed Tootsie Roll", but I don't really have any personal knowledge about it.

Our local ABC affiliate had a HD video of a grizzly bear eating a GO-PRO camera. No mention of how video was retrieved or if camera survived. Must be tough units. The bear's teeth and tongue were very clear.

Recently filmed some tracks time at Firebird. Came out great. Best shot was from inside the nose, mounted about 18"above the ground. Front facing just behind the windshield, rear and front facing from the roll bar. Some wind noise from all locations but not bad.

mikiec 05-21-2013 09:23 PM

Most of the wind noise has been eliminated with a remote microphone located in the drivers side compartment below the door. Paul suggested this location. I do get some fuel pump noise still. Oh by the way.. Using a GoPro HD3.

I have a GO PRO black.

You get two fixed mounts in the kit and a three way adjustable mount.

The only additional purchase is the roll bar mount bracket. It fits up to 2 and 1/2" roll bars.

It is well worth buying this accessory as the GO PRO can stay attached to it, rather than taking it on and off another type of mount bracket.

The accessory is similar to an exhaust clamp, but in plastic with two adjusting tightening screws that are finger tightened. Easily off and on in seconds.

mikiec 06-02-2013 11:23 AM

Another good accessory is the remote control.

So how ca you drive, play videos and watch the trailer behind you through the hard top? Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

From my experience with a Hero 2 you wont get reasonable sound unless you use an external mic, maybe the 3 is better? Also battery life is an issue, I put in a cigarette lighter socket for power. Here's a clip with a cheap external mic at 125mph and the Gopro suctioned on to the rear deck.

mikiec 06-15-2013 02:39 PM

Is there a trick getting the GoPro suction cup to stick? Mike keeps losin it's grip.

Tulsa cobra 06-15-2013 03:14 PM

I shot this with the Drift HD, it has a remote mic, has lcd screen so you can see where you are pointing your camera at, also has a wireless watch switch for turning it on and off.

The video quality is very good in my opinion and by far better audio than the Go Pro and Go Pro 2. It is a little bigger than theres though. Has a standard camera mount so lots of attatchements.

If the video is a little shaky, I live in Oklahoma and the roads are about as poor as they get, after the video, i got my front wheel checked and it was out of true, 6 months later, had to get the other redone as well.

Word of caution, when you record, the HD settings seem nice but are very very large files, I have a 4 year old Mac pro and recorded at the second highest quality and regret it. record on the lower quality and you will never notice.

A friend gave me the new sony one, and what few videos I have seen of his looks very very good. The colors and resolution are outstanding. I will compare them in the near future.

Here is the link I don't know how to embed the video

Mike,
I've never had an issue with the suction mounting, I just wipe the spot clean and just press down on the button and lock it down. Though I do have a nice smooth painted car, not one of these unpainted ones that you pay extra for.

Hi Fitz:
I mounted mine on the roll bar, but my roll bar is not the conventional type. Mine is full size to both seats and it is 3" OD.

I am attaching some pictures of my set up, this is not a permanent type set up it can be taken off the car. I used a stainless steel muffler clam from Jegs and a stainless steel brace to attach the pod. I will let the pictures explain it.

If you have any questions let me know. By the way I use the skeleton case so that the sound id not affected. I am thinking about a different external mike to reduce the wind noise.
Cheers
Lou
