New Tires
Down to 4 whatever on my rear Mich PS2 295/35//18's; not happy with wear but fronts good. Who is suggesting good 4 brand tires. Thinking of going to Nittos; have had Sumos but they all wear so fast? Suggestions and where to get?

I really like my MT street radials and they've lasted years.....oh yea, the car was dead over 4 years...

While your at it change them over to 15 inch and get those Ghetto wheels off.

Mickie Mikey - noticed a lot of coupes and others going to 17-18 lately. You should try it... Not getting those Mich PS2's again- way too much $420 at Discount and they don't last any longer then cheap Sumos etc . My front 2 are still really good though?...what to do...%/

PS2"s were awful traction wise, if you went with the Nitto NT01 you'll spend about 900 dollars from Discount tire Direct online and get them heat cycled by them. I replaced my PS2's and couldn't believe the difference.

At that size, your choices are somewhat limited. Nitto only makes 2 tires in that size, the NT01 and the new Invo. Both around $230-250 each.
But, if you use a 284/40-18, you can find other choices. The Nitto 555 is an excellent all around street tire, and costs about $200. I'v been using those for a couple of years, and I really like them. When they wear out, I'll probably get another set. I have heard good things about about the Goodyear F1 tire. I believe it's a factory tire for a lot of vehicles, like the Corvette and Charger. Somewhat cheaper than the Nitto, at about $170. |
Another vote for the Nitto 555 NT. I just had Discount install a set @ $160 a tire out the door. The difference is night and day from the BFG TA's that I took off. Only about 300 miles on the Nitto tire but they are great so far.

Discount tire/American tire is a good source and have them heat cycled at the warehouse for $20 each. Wait about a week or 10 days after heat cycling before you really use them hard and they will grip extremely well and last a very long time. |
OK, here is a question from Arkansas. Will the 17"'knock off wheels fit a tire changer without messing up wheel? I have a four pound lead hammer and proper pliers.
The wire is here, too. Can my wheels be balanced on regular machine? All my weights are on inside now. I could go to Memphis if I have to. Any suggestions for anything even where in Memphis? |
The answer is yes. But, a couple of subjects crossed here. First, your lead hammer should be 6 lbs and not just any lead hammer. Second, a road-force balance would be best. Third, instead of lots of weights you should rotate your tire on your wheel so it needs the least number of weights. Most any shop can do it. Just needs attention and patience. Finally, if you buy cheap tires they may never be perfectly round.
