Test track west of PHX.

Mike or Bob, there is a test track out to the west of Phoenix that I'd like to know about.
I did a Google maps and looked to the west of Hiway 60 on Happy Valley Rd., is that oval track and the associated tracks in use or is that the one that was closed by the neighbors?
Continue looking to the west past the WWII airfield and past the 2nd WWII field on Patton Rd. continue west on Patton Rd. until it ends at the large oval track and facility. Who owns this ? Is it available for private use?

Maybe it is the All American Track by Luke Air force base?

John that is part of Speedworld which also had a drag strip we visited several times as a club. The entire area is now closed, out of business and owned by Maricopa County. Nothing for us there. Off road track, moto track, etc. All gone.

John/Bob,
You are referring to Ford's Arizona Proving Grounds. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Speedworld and never has. It is NOT open to the general public. The oval that you see is from photos is a newly formed and paved 2.2 mile oval. I work there as a high speed and special operations test driver. Don't confuse APG from the old, abandoned Chrysler proving grounds on the NORTH side of HWY 60.

Mikie, the Arizona Proving Grounds are tighter than a bank vault to get in to.

Mike Brasfield 01-06-2014 02:50 PM

Mikie…there are lots of track events around the state. Why don't you come out some time and enjoy the day???

Tucson….make sure you keep your ears open for the next Indie track day and let me know. loads of fun. It would be great to get a group of Cobras large enough to have our own session. It would take 8 cars and we could have the run of the track for 4 sessions for about $160 per car.

John-Tucson 01-07-2014 09:34 AM

Thanks Slither, that is the one that I was referring to.
Mesa Mike, I will let you know about future Wilcox events. We might be able to get four Cobras from Tucson, that is one half of the eight needed.

Mike, Been there and done that. For me, not fun. For others, I say give it a try if you enjoy go for it. I have also told others to take an HPDE class to see what the car is capable of doing and what it will do under certain conditions.
