Build Almost complete, when can i register it?

Dear fellow Arizonians, I'm in Tucson and my project is almost complete. I need some direction with registration. my 66 is road worthy, don't have all the little final touches done. Curious if i should attempt to complete the initial registration now, or wait til all the mirrors, interior, lights and wipers are installed and functional. I've heard they don't really look at those things anymore, just the VIN, MSO and receipts.
Thanks
Fred

Cerainly wait until all of the required safety equipment is installed. The little extras, they can wait.

LMH 02-02-2014 05:54 PM

Hey Fred! Good to hear it's coming along!
When my brother registered his roadster, he took it to DMV on Shannon road for the inspection. It wasn't any big deal to go through but I think it kind of depends on who the inspector is. Definitely make sure it has all the safety stuff is installed and all the lights, turn signals, brake lights etc, work.
Then we'll see you at one of the get togethers!

Are the windshield wipers necessary? I honestly don't ever want to put them on.. i don't plan on driving a convertible in the rain.. but i've heard they are part of the safety equipment.

Don't have wiper on ours. MVD didn't say anything about it.

They are required in AZ by law but there's a lot that don't have them. It's possible that an inspector may say something though. Kind of depends on who it is and how detailed they make the inspection.
I've seen manual wipers that clip on the windshield with the handle inside to wipe the windshield. Sort of like what you might see on a golf cart. Then they are never to be used again once inspection is passed. Might be something to keep in mind if someone says something about them.

Required yes but must not be very important as there are lots of cobras without them. Doesn't mean they won't say something.

Sure would like to see one of those manual wiper things. Would be nice to carry on that odd chance you get hit by some rain.

Do you mean something like this
http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/se...55-AR&x=86&y=9
and for some reason walmart carries them.
Stenten Golf Cart Accessories WW0001 Windshield Wiper-Hand Operated: Other Sports & Outdoors : Walmart.com

LMH 02-03-2014 07:21 AM

Yes, like those. You could make some sort of clip to hold it on the windshield. Pretty odd that Walmart sells it but you never know with them!
Larry

dave from mesa 02-03-2014 07:33 AM

Also that Walmart price is double. Not the same I know but still.
Really like the one from Snyders.

Karl Bebout 02-03-2014 08:42 AM

That would do wonders on my Lexan windshield that Mesa Dave worked on, for weeks. Still, probably not a bad idea, if you have a glass windshield, and forgot to use RainX. Even at WalMart's price, its a whole lot cheaper than an electric system.

The walmart price is more in line with all the golf cart companies.. the snyder auto is unusually inexpensive.

Larry, maybe they'll let him by with one of them squeeze horns like on a kids bicycle. TOOT-TOOT!

Pretty silly but I think it would pass that way. The law says you need a horn but I don't think it says what horn!

Arizona registration

Take a look at my post on the FFR forum. Search Arizona registration. While I was at MVD my MK4 was on a flat bed tow truck. The "inspector" verified the FFR chassis number on the frame. That was it. No tech, no electric on, nothing. My Cert from FFR says 1965 at which time there were no smog tests. I got a historic plate. If you need more help let me know.
