Paint in Tucson
I had my Cobra done at Hot Rods in the Desert. Randy did it.(991-3600) The shop is nothing to look at, but he does good work at a fair price $5000. I had another guy do the body prep over three weekends for $1000. He got it done through primer. If you want to see it up close, I will be at cars & coffee May 10 from about 8:30-10:00.

Don't they have a hobby shop on base?

See if you can find China. I haven't seen him on line for a while, but he had some info on painters. He hadn't used it but he had gathered lots of info.
|
You know, I was thinking of him a few weeks ago. He seems to have vanished.
As far as the Hobby shop goes, when I was in we had a shop and there were all kinds of people around to help that had vast amounts of experience. |
Hello hello! :)
No, unfortunately I don't have much information on painters. My old neighbor (painter) and I both moved. Lost his number, now I have no one. :( |
Wow! I hoped this note would find you. What, where, how are you? You don't love Mikie anymore? You never call. You never write. He thinks you don't love him any longer.
|
I got a new place, been busy with bunch of stuff. :p
|
You could talk to Todd Hood at a Hoods Etc down on Dodge Blvd. I'm not sure he does entire paint jobs but it may depend on how busy he is. He is an excellent painter though and does a lot of work for Lexus and Mercedes.

So only what, 30-40 million to spend? Don't know if Don Maggiore still does 'em and he's here in Phx but does a good job a a good price. PM me for his number if interested. |
Is Don still around? Like China, who has partially resurfaced, he has been silent for so long. Did he ever get that Mustang going?
|
I thought Don moved out along the Colorado River somewhere. Bullhead or Lake Havasu City.

He may well have, I haven't talked to him for a year at least. I still have his number in my cell directory, but don't know if its good or not.

Hi Dave, I have been asking around Tucson and found a couple of good painters, however, your wife now needs to win the Arizona lottery, then you can afford one of them.
Let me suggest that you first search around Sierra Vista for a painter . Your town has some beautiful custom cars and there has to be a couple of painters that you can work with in terms of cash and labor. Check out the local cruise-ins as well as the auto parts shops, NAPA, Auto Zone, etc. usually one or more of the counter guys will know of a painter / body shop that does good work. Any pre-paint work that you do will cut the cost a bit, however, the sanding / filling / sanding / filling /sanding will seem endless to you and you may want to pay for a pro to do it faster and with more knowledge. ALSO, any screw-ups by the painter can be better corrected there in Sierra Vista than you driving 80 miles to Tucson and have to leave the car overnight. Just some thoughts from a guy who's 47,000 mile Cobra remains unpainted. |
thanks John, I will look and ask around here. I might try to do the body work myself, but we will see. I hope you are doing good.

I was going to have mine painted, but when I got quotes I decided to do it myself. Had never done any bodywork or paint before, but decided to try it anyway. It's time consuming, but I found it really rewarding to do the bodywork and paint myself. It ended up being the best part of our build. If you have access to a paint booth and funds are limited, I say go for it. I have some sanding blocks you can borrow if you are interested. PM me. John |
