Really big fun

A bunch of us East Bumb-Screw Cobra guys (Mesa Mike, Hector Benetiz, Superstition Bill and Will, from south Flag) went to a AAA sponsored "advanced driving" class at Bondurant yesterday and yowzer, was it fun.
There were a total of 150 "students" broken down to groups of 20, or so. We had six different "modules" through out the day that started at 9am and ended a 4pm. A bunch of laps in 10hp go carts started my day, on to the skid pad. Could really tell the people that had not had the joys of driving on snow and ice. Accident avoidence, in new SS Camaros was next, followed by more Camaros on the timed autocross course. ( Hector Benetiz just smoked more than 95% of all the other drivers) A ride along in new '14 Corvette Stingrays, on a short (1 mile, maybe) road course was an exciting end of my day. One of the students used a GPS app on his phone to determine the 102MPH top speed. The driver knew his car, track, and ability. Lots of rumble strips and hard braking and cornering. Thrashed that vette! woo hoo! Thrown in the mix was a very good lunch buffet of charcoal grilled burgers, brats, and chicken with good side dishes, and then of course, the sales pitch for AAA auto insurance with their new gizmo for tracking your driving habits. (ala Progressive Ins, but without giving money to Progressive's uber liberal HMFIC) AAA paid $30K for the day, in addition to our $49@ entry and it was well worth it. Smiles all around. :D

Karl, was this something you wanted to attend or did your insurance company require it?

Actually, I did learn some good stuff. One being to not get into anything with one of those guys driving those 'vettes. I'd never want to treat my car that harshly, unless I was taking it out through the desert or up the side of a mountain. Of course, they didn't own the cars and that makes a difference. Honestly, the one tip that really sunk in and proved itself to me was to look farther ahead to where I was wanting the car to go. Big difference from looking just ahead.
Hmmm, wonder if this will help with my insurance?

I don't think I like the idea of an app that tracks your driving habits. You shouldn't either Karl.

Putting one of those cute little "big brother" thingies in my car is never going to happen.
Although, I guess having one 09/13 would have been good, only for being able to pinpoint just where I was. The PoPo and the tow company both wanted to know just where I was and there wasn't any visable mile sign around. Fortunately, Superstition Bill was with me and took off in his car to find a sign.

i did that six months ago, was a lot of fun. I forgot to sign up for this one in time. Last time I went, half the vette's were in line for the shop.
