New Solution to an old problem

As some of you are aware, I've had issues with my alternator making a horrible noise when I start my car. I've tried tightening the belt, tried soaping the belt this morning (No Joy) Tried buying a belt the same size without the interupted teeth.. still no joy. So I sat down and looked the whole thing over again.. Gues what? The belt that is the right size for the water pump and the crank pully is too small for the pully on the alternator. Bought a belt 1/8 inch wider without interupted teeth and problem solved. So, if you have March custom over-drive pulley on your alternator, make sure the belt fits the march pulley aand the waterpump and the crank pulley will handle it just fine..

Nice find Danr, I think that squeal would have driven me crazy.

Way to go Danr, at least no nuts were dropped down the intake.

An 1/8 inch wider, that's a huge stepup.

Guess what has happened to the drive ratio now.

I would replace the alternator pulley with some other brand that IS a match for your crank and waterpump pulleys.

What does March say about this?

Dang, glad you will finally stop making such OBNOXIOUS noises when you finally get your car started. Now, work on the driver...

Danr55 05-16-2016 07:15 AM

Karl, the owner has been making those noises for years and no cure has yet been found!

And I thought that was your car backfiring :JEKYLHYDE:JEKYLHYDE:JEKYLHYDE

"And I thought that was your car backfiring "

His car's backfiring could never make your eyes water and your stomach retch that badly.

Talkin' paint peeling.
