12th 2017 Ford GT goe to Jay Leno

Jay Leno received the 12th 2017 Ford GT. He'd also received the 12th 2005 and this one is a bit more expensive, coming in at $505K. What a car! There were 8600 "applicants" for the 500 of these that Ford is to make. That would have made for $4Billion, 343Million, in sales if Ford had decided to fill all the orders.

Of course, some will say they would have lost money and that each one would have cost more to build than the selling price. Not buying that argument. They would have developed procedures where they could have maximized economies of scale, but then, the cars would not have been nearly as exclusive.

I'm glad to see Leno get one. That guy is a true car guy and through hard work, big talent, and good luck has the money to truly enjoy his passion. Its great that he drives pretty much all his treasures. Imagine the "garage sale" when he dies....

He's had it for a while. Last night's Jay Leno's Garage clip was probably taped 2 or so months ago. He also has a longer video on his web site and it's been out for a month or so.

Also, Vin #12 doesn't mean the 12th off the line. Like the original GTs they are being built of of order.

Well, that's probably not really true. The cars are hand built, each one, at Ganassi's factory in Canada. They are really behind their projections of a car a day. They are lucky to be doing a couple a week. People that had been given a date (ie, this quarters production) got letters that rescheduled their deliveries. Those who were given a quarter slot for order/delivery were given a new quarter in which their order will be processed.

PS I was one of the 8600 applicants and one of the over 8000 that got a "no" letter with an invite to try for the remaining 250 in year 4. Yeah right, all 8000 of us plus 10000 more. For those who applied and were rejected our original applications will still be there. But remember, it lost :)

They are built at Multimatic which is not owned by Ganassi. Chip did get his car already.....

They will never be as good as a 1966 mk2. That is the ultimate Ford GT.

John, thanks for the link. I had not watched the TV show so I enjoyed the uTube. By the way....the car won LeMans. That, in itself, is amazing. ha Jay must have said that a dozen times.
