Bisbee run

Al and Patti along with Vikki and I determined a February 16 to February 18 run to Bisbee. Have rooms available at Copper Queen for 201.00 total including taxes for two nights. Other hotels in the area also just wanted to stay at Copper Queen. This is a Friday and Saturday night run. Let me know

Bisbee in February without side curtains or a heater.. ?? No thank you.. Perhaps in May..

Karl Bebout 01-07-2018 11:49 AM

At 5500+ ft. elevation, Bisbee is bound to be too nipply for me in February. Also, two nights in Bisbee is a stretch for me, being of the non-imbibing-persuasion. That's just me...

How about March. Does not matter which month. May is for route 66. Talk to me, otherwise February from what i can see. Where else to go?

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Gary. This will all work out. Perhaps week after picnic.
Avg Bisbee weather in April is 73/43. March is 66/37.

Never been on this run. What is the attraction, roads, views, Bisbee or ....?

Lee, This is a nice ride. Some twisty curvies but lots of wide open two lane driving.

I'd prefer to maybe spend the first night in Bisbee and then take the back roads over to Sonoita, on to Patagonia, take a jaunt down to the ghost town, Harshaw (yes, paved road) backtrack back up to 82, slide over to Nogales, and then, hit the road for home. Its all freeway from Nogales, so not as much fun, but its still driving.

Another (better?)option would be to spend the second night in either Sonoita or Patagonia before driving further.

Good, lets bounce some ideas around. It will have some great roads to run on. We can even go to Douglas. Drive down Saturday morning and wind up in Bisbee for the night also. All kinds of which way should we go.

Rt. 66 is the first, weekend in May. Memorial Day is usually toward the end of May so you are right May amy not be the best month. April looks just fine depending on the rain situation.

Gang,

Saw your thread. I live in Tucson, occasionally make weekend runs to Bisbee in a variety of fast Fords. Watch your speed approaching Sonoita, and through Patagonia. Major speedtrap.
Given a bad citation, being LE I fought it and citing officer never showed. Numbers game there. Recommend Tubac Country Club on 19 for chow and AB on way home. They filmed Tin Cup there, nice place to chill and chat.

Armrer, I can attest to the Sonoita speed trap. About two years ago, a bunch of us went to Tombstone and Bisbee. We'd stayed in Sierra Vista and rather than going back to Bisbee, with some of the group, for the mine tour, Scottie, Keith and I drove over to Sonoita and must have caught the LEO napping because we blew by him at at least 80MPG and didn't catch his attention. We were much more cautious on the way back! Sneaky bugger was stashed back in a wash and not visible until it was much too late. Darn lucky to not have been revenue sources.
