Saturday 01/05 Change of Plans
Since No BOdy thought my idea for a Wickenburgh ride tomorrow, I'm not going to bother going clear up to the Carefree i17 station. Instead, I'll leave the Station at Idaho and the 60, at noon and head on East To Florence Junction, South through Florence to Oracle Junction, then West over to i10 and back to the Valley. Little shorter drive but should be little warmer. Hope to see Cobras, but if not, I'll be looking over the hood of mine.

I left the Idaho/60 station at 12:05pm, all by my lonesome. Had a very nice drive. East to Globe, South to Winkleman, North to Superior, and then Mesa Mike brought his trailer to take me home. A few miles South of Superior, I heard a pop/bang and then a nasty-clattering sound that increased with RPMs. Still had excellent oil pressure and no visual issues. Limped into Superior where I called buddy Mike. I parked at the exact same place he'd parked several years ago when I picked him up with my trailer, so he knew just where to look for me. I'll rip into it tomorrow or Monday. Thinking its valve train. Hope so.

Just like in Scuba diving, where you should ALWAYS have a dive buddy, it's probably not a good idea to take long cruises alone in a Cobra. Except if your name is Tucson John. In case some people weren't around a few years ago, Tucson John drove almost all states in the US by himself in something like a month or so. %/ |
Oh Fer Dumb!
No idea how this happened, but the #5 spark plug had blown out of the head and was attached to the plug wire. Obviously, I had not screwed the plug in properly but fortunately, the threads in the head are fine as are the plug threads. The plug would not turn in the wire boot, so it couold not have spun itself out. How this could have lasted about 1000 miles since I'd installed the plugs. Friggggggin Weird! At least it was a cheap fix. The little engine is running fine, again. |

Weird indeed..especially since the plug would not turn in the plugwire boot. Although this condition may have been created by heat from plug arcing against whatever after it wiggled out of it's hole.

Weird. Maybe that plug was telling you it wanted to be changed!
