Club Cobra Badge Holders

One of the members in the Great Northwest has designed a badge holder specifically for the Club Cobra badges. He needs feedback to determine if they will fit universally. Please check these dimensions against your car and report back on the findings. The dimensions you need to check are the .75 diameter (the diameter of the tube around the bolts that hold the bump, overriders. quick jacks), and the overall height of the center to center measurement between the upper and lower tubes. If you check those, please post your findings here.

Just FYI I don't need a badge bracket (see my post on the "other" thread). I checked mine out of curiosity and found that the O.D. of my tubes is 3/4", same as the drawing. The vertical distance between the tube centerlines is 2-1/4" which is 1/2" closer together than the drawing. Mine's an E-M from ~2000, so YMMV... I'd suggest making the clamp dimension slightly more than 3/4" to make room for a thin band of urethane (or suitable wrap-around elastomer shim) to prevent metal-to-metal contact. Tom |

Thanks much Dan, for starting this post, one less thing I have do today. I believe the 3.50" center to center, is for mine and one other member's car up here. Classic Roadster's have that 3.50" and 1.25 dia. tubes, of course I have to be odd man out ;) So Skip will be making that size as well. These will finished in brushed alum. but can easily be polished for those that like that look (Me). My EM car has 3/4" OD tubes and 2-1/4" tube centerlines, as per Tom Wells' EM noted above. I second Tom Wells' sentiment about designing to accomodate an appropriate soft shim (or surface) to prevent metal to metal contact.

My Kirkham has the 3/4" tubes and 2 1/4" centerlines while the CR has 1 1/4"
tubes with 3 1/2" spacing, same as Alfa02. I'd be interested in one of each, if available. |
the kellisons are .75 tube on 5.062 center lines, i think making a bracket and marketing it will be a losing proposition, too many variables.

"Alpha Tom", Carl :), you know better then that ;) In fact yes, I have news. Skip, myself and Dave (another club member) went last Tues. to Bruce's (Bruce Snyder) house to help install his "New" 347 in his Cobra. Skip and I talked, he said, we will have to do 3 different version's min. and will do any one badge holder at extra cost that doesn't meet the 3-"Standard" holders. Skip has made one for his car in Alum. to see final fit, like I said before he's still working at Boeing full time, and only has weekend's to work on the project, plus his buddy, has a better CNC machine, he will use his when time allows. Were getting there Karl, thanks for checking up on us here, in the "Great North Wet". Cheers Tom.

What's the luv about the badge brakets yet? I'm using this as an excuse to procrastinate about making my own (which would be substanially cruder than what Skip designed). |

I modified a bicycle rear reflector that mounts under the seat that I had laying around the garage. With some minor work it provided a sturdy mount for my rear bumperette. It won't work for quick jacks though...

I asked Skip about the holder's, and do you have a (Good) excuse for not getting up to speed on them, "Well the Hospital almost killing me", was the best one he could up with ;) Long story, short he's recovering and at home. Hi guys. Another simple route would be to use Billet Specialties billet aluminum hose separators like this:

I used 1 inch hose sized separators and I cut one of the "holes" off to mount my front license plate to my front bumper so the plate would swivel back like the original 427 street cars. The center clamping screw holds anything you want onto a round tube. Add a little rubber sheet as a shim if you need to.
