Pad knock back issues 3 link 8.8
-Hi Everyone,
Hopefully, someone with some rear axle and/or track experience has some insight I haven't been able to find. I have a FFR with their 3 link, 8.8 rear with Torsen T2R differential. I get some severe pad knock back when cornering on the street. I have to pump the pedal twice to recover 100%. I have Wilwood dual masters with balance bar and their 4 piston calipers. Torsen recommended wide c-clips, but didn't know where to get them, nor does anyone else. Wilwood recommended a 2 pound check valve and knock back springs behind the caliper pistons. FFR is unfamiliar with the Torsen, but said posi units needed new clutch packs when this starts happening. The Torsen works with helical gears and does NOT have clutch packs. The rear end builder is looking into solutions, but nothing so far. He does not believe the check valve and knock back springs will get it resolved. Does anyone have experience with the check valves and knock back springs, particularly with the Torsen? Any other recommendations? Thanks, Mark |
Most likely its the axles end play is too much. Not so noticeable with floating OEM calipers. The rigid Wilwood (pistons on both sides of the caliper) gets the pistons pushed back when the axle shifts outbd.

They do make thicker C clips for GMs though.
Thinking on it, I'd wouldn't use peel-able shim stock behind the C-clips as they'd surely give way and start bouncing around your diff case. You could have someone push in on the axle while you measure the gap behind the c-clip left and right.
