Buying A Cobra

If you buy a cobra from a private owner from Michigan will I have to pay Arizona sales tax......

When you register it for the street you will pay a "sales" tax...

But if it is for track only there will be no tax

Make sure what year it is registerd as, so that you don't have the emissions thing.

Do you live in Arizona? If not, then Arizona can't make you pay sales tax to them... ;D:D:D

MikeC,

Not sure. If you pay a sales tax where you bought the car and have receipts for it then No.

Other than that you need to contact MVD and see what they say.

One of our group purchased a kit from an out of state manufacturer and he objected to paying sales tax on something he purchased out of state. They had him sign some kind of waiver and no tax.

I don't know Arizona law, however, here is the story if you live or want to register the car in California.

1. A private party sale would be just that and the seller wouldn't ever charge
sales tax in any state.

2. A dealer will always try to charge sales tax, unless you get special transit tags.

3. When buying at an auto auction you will be charged local, state and city
taxes unless you have an ICC carrier remove the car from the state.

4. When the car is registered in Ca. you pay sales tax based on the amount
of the sale as shown on the bill of sale.

Check with the Arizona DMV, or someone in the auto trade.

Bonihadi,
I spent a few weeks in Turkey, had one or two etc. glasses of raki! Made me feel single and see double.

P.S. Hope to see everyone at Club Sandwich!

Most likely the sales tax would be paid when and where the car is registered. I think the DMV has this figured this way so they can't get screwed out of the tax. There should be a LAW against charging tax on a car as  as a Cobra!
