Local Paint Shop Recommendations

Any recommendations on where to get my Beck-Lister painted in the Phoenix-metro area and a ballpark cost?

Gordon Levy is in Tempe. Give him a call. He has painted a number of the AZ Cobras cars.

It shouldn't be a problem getting a Lister painted. Just go buy a gallon of latex house paint (color of your choice), a roller, brush, and get after it! :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE:

(This is a joke! I really do think the Beck Listers are cool rides!)

What part of Mesa are you at?

kountzecobra - House paint? Brush? Roller? Why would I want to use such precision instruments when a couple of old cans of spray paint (assorted colors) and a pizza box for masking would do the trick? Trust me I actually did this once to an old junker I had when I was stationed in Okinawa... ;-)

your about 10 minutes away...Crismon and southern here.

azguy2000 01-27-2003 10:31 PM

I would love to see your car...maybe some time i'll see it on the road.

need4speed 01-27-2003 10:53 PM

I would love to see it on the road too. I was suppose to get it from Chuck Beck before the holidays but he has been extremely overloaded (basically a 1 man show) and he could not get it done in time. I should get it sometime around the middle of February, basically as a roller and then I need to finish it up with engine, transmission, etc. This is why I was asking about the paint to help decide if I should have it done locally or just have him do it.

azguy2000 01-28-2003 02:52 PM

what will be powering your car?

Need 4

Depends on how much you have/want to spend and how nice you want it-- Lots of great shops locally--

If you want the best-- Squeeg's Kustoms in Mesa-- You pay by the hour--

They are 3 things:
1 Expensive
2 Takes a while- "it will be done when it's done"
3 Perfect

I don't know if they will paint a Chev powered vehicle--

Best regards,

Jim:LOL:

Jim - Thanks for the advice. I decided to have it painted by Chuck Beck since it is a Chevy and I did not want to soil sacred Ford ground...;-) Actually Chuck used to send them out to a number of different painters in CA since he did not do it himself but he has recently developed a partnership with another companyto assist in building his cars and they now have the facilities to do it in-house.

AZguy2000 - It will definitely be a small block Chevy but I have not finalized all the details on it yet. Just too many options. I am leaning towards a 383 stroker setup delivering around 500+HP but I may also consider a rebuilt and de-tuned Winston Cup engine from the same place that my brother-in-law (Coyled) got his if I can get it for a reasonable price. I originally thought about some of the new Chevy big blocks but unfortunately Chuck told me that they won't fit due to their width. Seems they will interfere with the foot wells and I just have to have somewhere to put my feet!

azguy2000 02-01-2003 12:54 AM

get some hand controls and get your feet amputated!-Gosh im bored.

coyled 03-27-2003 02:14 PM

Bruce, you know if you go with that cup style motor, I may have some competition, on the straight anyway. So, where is the lister? I would like to come see it soon. Scott

need4speed 03-27-2003 02:51 PM

Oh where, oh where is my Lister? That's what I keep asking Chuck Beck since December. The last promise was for him to deliver it earlier this week but it did not work out for him logistically. What is complicating everything right now is that he has moved his Lister operation to Avanti Motor Co. (of Studebaker fame) in Atlanta, GA and that is where my car is sitting. I did speak to him today and the new delivery date is targeted for 4/12, when he will be making another cross-country run back to his facility in CA. I guess I will have to wait and see if it really happens.

Between just trying to get the car and then moving to another house, I just have not decided anything about the motor yet. Can you give me the contact details on where you got your Cup motor again (RDI?), I misplaced it during the move. All I need to do is to keep up with you on the straights and then use you as banking in the turns... ;-)
