Cactus Fly-In, Arizona Cobra event for March ?
Hello Mikec, as I recall you were looking for a March, Arizona Cobra event. The 45th Annual Cactus Fly-In will be on March 7, 8, and 9th. It's at the Casa Grande Airport. Admission for cars is $5.00. Their website is: www.cactusflyin.org . We'd talked about having a general get together in Casa Grande, maybe this would be of interest to the Cobra guys, I believe that we have at least four pilots and a few others who are interested in airplanes. Oh yes, this event is for Antique Aircraft as well as warbirds. I've attended this fly-in many times and the "day" to be there is Saturday. It is always windy, it's March, but normally shorts and t-shirts are comfortable by noon. Bring lots of suntan lotion! Food is sold by the local Casa Grande clubs. If we get a large Cobra response perhaps we could ask the sponsor if we could park together on the ramp. What do you think? John

John,
This is interesting. Tell me more. Is it just a static display? Any air shows/ stunts going on? What is the best time to meet on Saturday? Would we be able to get group parking for the club? How about on the air strip :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: Mike |
Mikiec, There is no "air show" as such, however, almost every plane that is on display will fly two or three times during the day. There will be 80 to 100 planes on display. Usually there are twenty to thirty planes that fly in from California, New Mexico, and Texas. There is no schedule - it is a completely relaxed atmosphere of conversation and flying. Sort of like a Cobra get together with some burn outs. Lots of photo oppurtunities. Like a car show, there are "rules" to be observed-don't touch the airplane ! This is always one of the premere aviation events in the state. I would like to see if we could get a commitment of Cobra owners who would attend, that way we could approach the powers that be with a request for space and go from there. I can guarantee that anyone who attends will not go home disappointed. Are there any other pilots / aviation enthusics who have attended this event in the past and can help me with a "thumbs up" ? By the way Mike, is there a spell check on this website? The best time to meet would probably be about 10:00AM there at the airport. John

John,
You getting any enthusiasm from the crowd on this one? Would like to attend (Cobra-less), but not sure what the schedule is for that weekend, yet. Cheers, Steve |
Hello Steve, I'm sorry to say that there has not been any interest in attending this event. I had really hoped that we could get a dozen Cobras there if only for the exposure to the aviation community. The Cobra guys are missing a golden opportunity to get photos of their cars with these 50 and 60 years old planes. The "warbirds" usually consist of T-34's, C-337's (O-2's), and the current collection of Russian and Polish trainers. I always use up a couple of rolls of film on the old planes. One year a guy from Phoenix brought down his restored MIG, it was beautiful. I'm planning to attend so if you make it I'll probably be parked out in the dirt with the normal cars. John

John,
I'm sorry I won't be able to attend. You know how much I luv those planes. I will be playing in my clubs golf championship that weekend . It's not an easy choice :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: Hersh:) |
