And now for something completely different...

Look at the toy I got to ride in the other day. Pretty quick little unit. And I mean little !

Ben

P.S. - Don't worry -- I'm not going to the "other side". :)

Those 550 Spyders are a hoot. Think of it as a German Cobra. Great in an autocross.

That is one CLEAN ride!

Vellly nice Dr Jones...

I admit they are one of my favorite convertables too.. except that I would want the Subaru flat 4 motor with turbo.. (300 + hp) That would be one heck of a road race machine !

The version you have is sweet.. immaculate looking too !

If I recall correctly, it is one of Chuck Beck's. Go to the Spyder Club forum -- you'll find out more than I can tell you about these things.

very cool little car

Bannon 04-18-2003 05:32 PM

I saw one at a car show here in Richmond last year. The guy had shoehorned a Porche 911 motor into his. Very nice.

I hate to say it but a turbo vw powered Beck Spyder romped all over the Cobras in the Auto cross/Slalom in my Run and Gun 92 (93?) tape.

Nice cars but I gotta have the Big Block sound!

Auto cross generally favors "smaller" cars. In that respect a BB Cobra is NOT a small car. In my Excalibur on a given track or day I could beat a Vette and LOOSE to a Datsun 240Z!

I'm thinking these Spyders would be an awesome Autocross car!

Ben,

Nice seats and great shifter. How were the seats for support?

btsai 04-18-2003 10:16 PM

The seats were okay. The seats in Mikiec's FFR are much more comfortable and at least as supportive. (Mike has the Tri-States seats.)

The 550 is so small that you're really shoulder to shoulder -- kind of crowded. And I'm a narrow framed guy -- 6' 1", 170 lbs and only wear about a 40L coat, if that gives you any idea.

I can see how they would really do well in autocross. Small. Light. Mid-engined. I have a tape of Run'n Gun '93, and Chuck Beck easily set fasted time on the slalom course. (Of course on the drag strip, the Cobras ruled...).

Ben
