At the drags

Good weekend at the drags although we never really got dialed into the track conditions (very poor traction). Bob B. had his car on display at the Superformance Booth. Looked good Bob, when I was there it had a bunch of people checking it out. I overheard one guy telling his friend that it was exactly the car of his dreams. Jeff C

Fuel Altered? Or just Altered?

In San Fransico the well dressed "drag racer" might wear this under his fire suit.....

Ernie, I don't EVEN want to know why you had that picture ready and available for this thread!

Cool dragster, but doing burn-outs is a no-no. :)

Excaliber 05-26-2003 09:49 PM

Doing burn outs on the street may result in this:

Well !! If you wear the hooters under your fire suit do they go in the front or rear. Nevermind I guess you just look for the this end up sticker.

Got a good photo of our display filled with Hooter's Girls but took picture with too many MB. Don't know how to lower to fit in limit of 40kb.
Had fun taking photo though.

Back to the fuel altered. I was fortunate enough to have seen the original fuel altereds run in Calif in the 60's . Like the Winged Express, Pure Hell, etc. On every run there was just no telling what would happen.

Complaining about the stability of the short wheelbase cobra seems like a joke in comparison.

Hey stale_face,

Remember Wild Willie Borsh and his AA/Fuel Altered? Only man crazy enough, or good enough to drive the thing with one hand! Lots of pics in the 60's hot rod magazines of him sideways as he left.

Big difference between that and a Cobra for twitchy. Drag racers don't have to go around corners at speed! :):) My car never scared me going in a straight line with my leg in it, but trying to push it in the corners gave me several good scares and a bunch more gray hair.

California Hot Rod Reunion

If you like old drag stuff and lots of it get to The California Hot Rod Reunion in October at the Famosa Dragstrip near Bakersfield Ca. I also believe there is an inagural event for the Mid West/East this year. Fantastic with Jr Fuelers, Door Slammers, Fuel Altereds and front engined 6 second Fuel Dragsters. You can get down in the pits and rub elbows with everyone involved. Just the way it was in the 60's-70's.

Oldies But Goodies

A Snake,

Are you going to the "oldies but goodies" drag race at Woodburn on June 21 & 22? Nostalgia drag racing, hot rods, Top Eliminator Dragsters, AA/Supercharged Coupes & Nostalgia Funny Cars. It is well worth the trip!

Mike

hot rod reunion

Rick,
I agree the reunion is one of if not the best show around. I have run altereds, drag boats, front motored cars and now run an alky funny. The blown flats are still the best E ride I have had. Now belong to CIFCA but The Blown Bad Boys is the club running the Nitro Altereds I added the photo from. There are some well known cars in the club NANOOk is maybe the best know on the west coast. Check out www.pronitrodragracing.com , car I listed is the car on the front page and has some great links.

I was there at Firebird.what they are calling "Fuel altereds"these days are funny car chassis' w/o the body.Definately longer wheelbases than the sixties cars. Not the same.
Also, all the runs i saw were singles. No "racing'.

At 25 bucks a head-it'll be a long friggin' time before i do that again.

The upside of the event was the Superformance display.Funny how Bob smiles when he has a full blue bottle.

In the why ask why catagory-Someone put a jet engine in a Ford Focus.
Still scratchin' my grape over that one.

Hello Cobrabill,
I to thought the drags were less than thet shold have been. The Altereds in the Blown Bad Boys group are of true wheelbase and some longer cars with the modifications like moving fire bottles and fuel tanks behind the front axle to be closer to the old chasis designs. Some do just have a body change as you noted. (only a guess) I think they were single runs to STREeeetCH the field or keep something going down the track. This was not a Firebird sponsored deal but a rented track event and I think the traction SUCKED for whatever reason. The track can and often does run the big boys and holds everything thrown at it but not that night.
These cars are considered EXIBITION by NHRA and many are modified alky or fuel cars but much more than just changing the fuel in the tank to nitro. Many have the engine some 4 or 5 inches from the old location to take advantage of the NEW tire technology and of course the mandated safety equipment. Give the group another chance as they put on a great show and you will see a few true legends like NANOOK. The non legends are also just as much fun to watch as a rule. Try one more event.

Anybody go to Westworld today. Saw 3 cobras there and Superformance had a display with 3 cars. Also had interesting conversations with insurance companies. Insurance guys said they will insure most all cars but cobras because Cobra drivers are not responsible. :( :( :( %/ Most accidents occur from letting friends drive their cars to merging onto interstates. Thought it was all interesting but I don't know of anyone having accident other then Bob B's car and it wasn't his fault?
Then I ran into American National agent; email is robert.hickman@american-national.com He said they insure cobras no problem. Just FYI; I am going to get a uote.:3DSMILE: :( Hopefully my toy will be ready soon??zx/
