Rebuild 3.55 rear end or Buy new
What's the general opinion rebuild the rear end or buy new?
What's the difference in price? What about disc brakes is the conversion easy ? Thanks, Chris |
Chris, the Ford rearr end is bullit proof. It's the trans that can be the weak link.

I picked up my rear end for about $300, to shorten it was another $550 (one new Moser axle, new flanges to fit my brakes, drain plug), and a Versailles brake set was $300.
A little elbow grease to put in a new seal, check the bearings, clean the gearing up, and paint the axle and I'm good to go. I didn't do a lot of pricing on new axles, but I'd guess I spent only about half of a brand new one. I didn't have to break into the diff as the limited slip diff was still good. |

IF YOU CHANGE GEARS, ADD $190 PLUS SHIPPING. MOSER AXLES ADD $225 PLUS SHIPPING. A GOOD REAREND, NOT BEND IN A WRECK OR ABUSED, CAN BE REBUILD AND WILL PREFORM VERY WELL UNDER A COBRA. |
