Best Transmission Fluid?

What are your thoughts on Transmission fluid for the Tremec-R Transmission? I have been running GM Synchromesh with no problem (that I know of) and would like to know your thoughts on Red-Line MTL, MT-90 or other Brands. The car does see some track time and 400lbs of torque.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks for any input,
Brian

Stick with the syncromesh. It is the only one recommended by Tremec.

Brian, I am running BG Synchroshift II in my Tremec TKO. Shifts are smoother. Next fill I am going to the ultimate stick shift fluid from Performance Unlimited in Wisconsin. Randall Thomas's special formula - "Ultra Shift"
By the way you need 2.5 to 3 quarts.

Used redline ATF in the ones I put in customer's cars. It shifted smoother than synchromesh, especially when cold, and is recommended by plenty of tranny shops.

Clicky.............

My shifting is pretty clicky right now and not much better when it gets warm. Does anybody have race experience with tranny oils? seems that there are no solid leaders yet in the manufacturers world of tranny oil..............

Royal Purple SynchroMax is a good choice, RedLine's fluid is the
best IMHO.

BPWilliams 03-18-2004 06:37 AM

What?

OK please define what IMHO means (not to savy on the lingo) I also think that Red-line has a great product but wanted to know what others were using.
Thanks for the info.

The change to ultrashift from performanceunlimited made an immediate improvement and will improve over time 300-400 miles. The TKO II shifts are less crunchy and 2nd to 3rd, 4th shifts are much quicker. It is expensive and hard to get off your hands.

What about for toploaders? What have people tried and what was their experience?
Thanks
Rick

RED LINE.............

OK I am going to try Red Line MTL, after talking to red line and several others I think that this should work fine. I will keep you posted on the results**)

Keep it above 100.........................

Brian;

Small world, while looking over your reply to my post I saw this post and had to reply... I have a Tremec in my Mustang behind a 350hp,351-W,car now has about 21,000 miles, mostly highway miles with about 30 to 40 1/4 mile passes and about 250 miles of open track at speed on two different tracks,1.8 miles long and 1.3 miles long.... I use it but do not abuse it,usually shift at no more than 5500 rpms as this motor was originally built for the street, not strip.....

Started out with Redline MTL,ran it for about 15,000 miles,no problems what-so-ever,decided to change the fluid and flush the trans.,saw all kinds of posts here about GM synchromesh and can get a 25% discount on GM and Ford parts,so I tried and still have the GM stuff in right now, been there for about 6000 miles.... Honestly can not tell any difference in the way the trans shifts or works.....The GM stuff must be pretty good as that's what comes in the new Corvettes...........I'll probably stay with it for cost only,if I remember right, they were both about the same price per quart, but I can get the GM stuff at 25% off retail price..........

I've used MTL in my Tremec for over 3 years now with no problems. The recommended fluid is the GM synchromesh which would also run fine I'm sure.
