Mother's Day Run
Carolyn and I had a great time carvin up the rim to Prescott today. One thing sure came clear to me and that's I need a fifth gear to run with the big dogs. I have a top loader that is too wide ratio for me. I am considering a tranny change. Can anyone make a recomendation? What about the new Tremec 600 series? Let's hear what you all have to say.
We had a ball today. It was our first long diatance run and the car was sound. That's a good thing! |
Chris,
Glad you and the lovely Carolyn could join us. The rest of the girls wanted to spend more time with her. From what I have heard the new 600 is supposed to be a nice tranny with a very friendly first gear. 5th. gear is needed. Crusin below 90 is not allowed. Mike |
Mikey,
Seems like your the leader of the pack... and a joyous spirit Nice to meet you and the rest of the gang. I am goin to make a tranny change as soon as I get good feed back from the rest of the knowledgeable guys out there. Without a fifth gear I am pushing the littleRUBY too hard for my liking! Hope we can run together again soon. Regards, |
Chris, the TKO and TKO II (now the TKO500 & 600) are good strong trannys. Your choice will be determined by your rear end ratio. I run the TKO with 0.68 final drive with my 3.73 rear. To run the TKO 600 you have a choice of a .64 final or a .82 final. For all around fun from scratch I would use a 3.08 to 3.27 or so rear and the .82 final. This would make the 5th gear like just another gear. My 5th gear is an obvious over drive drop and my first gear is pretty darn high so on take-off I can barely make it across the street (3.27 first gear). Here are specs:

I just wanted to say we had a great time on Sunday and thank you for the invite.
Please let us know when the next excursion is scheduled so that we can plan to attend. We're both fighting over who gets to bring a date on the next run. Although Chris drives like a girl, my girlfriend is much easier on the eyes. Also, please enjoy these pictures we took along the way. I think we got some pretty good action shots. http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/lcs...=/f502&.src=ph -Madik- P.S. Brian you still owe me a ride and Chris how about that blower info? |
Great pics. Nice meeting you both.

Thanks for the pics...
I stole them and added tham to my photo album. Great meeting you guys. With the 2 of you fighting over who gets to drive I don't think your girlfriends will ever get to go. Mike |
