347 or 392
I have this narrowed down to these two engines. I will purchase one or the other from Max at Five Star Ford. Both are crate engines and the 347 is 450hp and the 392 is 475hp, My only problem is the 392 weighs 126# more then the 347 and is a tighter fit. Both hp#'s are great but resale seems to tilt towards the 351 based block. 100 less CFM carb on the 347 may make this a better purchase. Anyone please help as I cannot lose any more hair over this. You guys are great and thanks for the help.

You mentioned resale value. Cubes sell. And really, you're talking a 1" total overall size difference between the packages, so that shouldn't really be a factor.
BUT (!) peak horsepower #'s are useless when choosing an engine. Ask the builder for a torque-curve graph and compare the engines based on the usable torque rather than the peak H.P. After all, you're not going to be driving around at xxx RPM & experience the peak H.P. very often. But you ARE going to be revving through a particular range quite regularly. That's where you want your torque. |

I don't know.....I had a hot little 347 and it was pretty quick. Had Gordon build and add a few "things". I now have a different car with a 460. I am investing in gas stations so paying for gas wouldn't make me feel so bad.

a 347 just seems to much of a stroke to me. 331 would be more comfortable in the reliablity. The 392 is great and you won't notice the extra 126. When you get used to the hp all you need to do is throw some AFR heads on it and bam you got 70 more hp to play with! On the 347 you probably have maxed out the hp already. you can't make it any bigger. The 392 you could punch out to 418 and still be safe.
