Feb. 25th Aircraft / Car show in Carefree,AZ.
Hey guys, A couple of questions about this Saturdays activities up there at Carefree. If I don't show my Cobra do I have to pay the $25 entry fee ? Where is the parking for the non-entrants ? How many guys will be going up there and where will you meet ? Will there be enough room for a couple of cars from Tucson ? Are any of you planing to attend any of the other shows in Chandler, 9am-3pm, or Tempe, 10am-3pm, or Gilbert ? John

Saturday Car Shows
John, I see listings for car shows in Tempe (Kiwanis Club) and Gilbert (Mesquite High School) on cruisinarizona.com and downtown Chandler (My Sister's Place) on desertcruisers.com. I cannot find the listing for the Carefree schedule and Club Cobra has lost all the postings about it. Does anyone out there have time/place/specifics/link?
I was planning to attend the Kiwanis Show but Carefree is closer. AZ Bob |

Please provide Carefree Inn address and time to meet. Breakfast starts 7am, we may want to meet earlier that 9am. Also, registration deadline is over and what is SCCC?

Hi,
The address is 37220 Mule Train Road Carefree, AZ 85377 for the Carefree Inn, whatever time you want to meet is fine with me. SCCC is a local Corvette Club, I think. cobish |
Sun Country Corvette Club (big club) so I found out tonight. The gas station (Chevron?) at Cave Creek and Carefree hwy SW Corner is a better gathering spot. I don't know how long the pancake breakfast is on but 9am is a good time to gather. See you there. Should be an interesting, fun show. Maybe we can race a plane down the runway?

Last time I was there I drove to the back entrance (on the west end). No fee, just drove in and parked. Was not one of the display cars but walked around like I belonged there. Got up in one of the WW1 planes and pushed a button....started it up by accident and drove the thing into a hangar. Were they pissed....
I just yelled I was with the INS and everyone scattered....I ran away. |
Here is the City of Carefree website on the Wings and Wheels Show:

The entrance is only about 5 miles from the gas station gathering point at the SW corner of Carefree Hwy & Cave Creek Rd. I know it used to be Texaco but with merges it might be Chevron. AZ Bob |
I've got some bad news for you late sleepers. If you want your car to be in the show you are supposed to gather in the parking lot of the Carefree Inn, 37220 N Mule Train Road at 6am. The cars will be paraded in 7am ish. This according to Fox News interview this morning with the Carefree Museum rep who is running things. Show is open to the public at 7am. Entry fee is $25, pubic entry is $7. I left a message with the coordinator, Evelyn Johnson, to call me back.

Bob, thanks for doing all of the ground work. Can I assume that we'll meet at 9:00 am at the gas station at Cave Creek and Carefree. The cost to get in and not display our cars is $7.00. John PS. If we are not there by 9:10 am please leave without us.

Ok, I talked with a human. The preferred entry is at 6am at Carefree Resort & Villas, located 2 blocks North of the Entrance of Sky Ranch with parade entrance at 8:15am, but you can register from 6am to 9am at the west gate of Sky Ranch also. Awards (72 trophies) at 2pm. All participants are required to stay until the 3pm Parade of Cars for spectators.
Carefree Resort & Villas = Carefree Inn, same address. The off-site registration is to prevent bottleneck at entrance. I think a gathering of Cobras at about 7am at the Cave Creek/Carefree gas station should work out, then direct to west gate entrance for registration and parking. Then it's pancake heaven. I will post more if I find out more. 150 cars expected. AZ Bob |
see you at 7 AM cavecreek/crefree gas station

Again Bob, Thanks for the coordination. Unfortunately the Tucson guys won't be able to make the 7:00am meeting time. For most of us that would mean a 3:30 am wake up with a 4:45 am departure for Phoenix ( on a day off). Perhaps we can plan another trip together. John
