White ceramic coating.

Any one know where I can get white ceramic coating done? I was talking to a guy with a coupe that had it done locally but I wasn't smart enough to write it down.

The only place I would go to do any heat related coating is Swain Technologies. You should ckeck out their website before you make any decisions.

Another nod to the folks at Swain Tech, especially if you want white.

I just read the Swain technologies website...very interesting regarding the potential for power increases if the gases are kept hot through the entire exhaust.

"The theory of insulating the exhaust system to retain heat is commonly overlooked by most racers. After heat has performed its function in the combustion chamber, it travels out the exhaust port to the header. If the Gases are allowed to cool, they lose velocity and the scavenging effect is reduced. If by insulating the exhaust system, gases inside are kept at the highest possible temperature, the resulting effect is a greater exhaust gas velocity and higher efficiency. Each gas pulse moves through the pipe faster, making room for the next and pulling it along. This reduces back pressure and increases the "super-charging" effect created by the now of high velocity gases.
Insulated headers also reduce radiant heat and lower underhood and cockpit temperature. By reducing air intake temperature 10°F, a horsepower increase of 1% results, a 30°F drop equates to a 3% horsepower increase. This is inexpensive horsepower.
Swain Tech engineers have developed several heat management products for use on headers and exhaust systems."

I used Swain Technology for my side pipes, excellent company with outstanding quality and service, highly recommended. If anyone is considering Swain, this is the time of the year they start to get busier.

Jet Hot doesn't list white as an available option.

Do not know the technical difference between the various vendor coatings, but Swain is a true " ceramic " coating that is only available in white. The finish is similar to medium/slighty rough sandpaper, i.e. ceramic.

In my case, I wanted the quality of Swain's work/product with a ceramic coating, but black. Sprayed the side pipes with high temp exhaust paint from Bill Hirsch:

Hmm

Let me check tomorrow with Johnny Jackson at Airpark Autotek.. he will know the coatings people in town. I have seen some white headers around town , so I know that someone does it here. I'll get back to you soon.

I think the car that had the white ceramic pipes was mine at the Pavillians. That coating was done over at "Custom Coatings" they are by far the best in town, Jet Hot is not even close in quality. The coating on my pipes was not cheap, Custom Coating had to special order the white ceramic. Good Luck with yours.

I am concerned that the coating on the heaaders will make an extremely tight fit into the collector. Can they "not coat" the last inch or two?

John

I have had many pipes coated inside and out, we have always been able to get the pipe together. Sometimes useing a wire wheel on the inside of the joint does the job. Add a nice chamfer prior to coating that will help. Out of round pipes will be hard either way.

Good luck
Joe

I called Custom Thermal Coating today. They won't do white anymore. He said that the white tends to turn yellow over time. I think I'm stuck sending them to Swains. Thaks for all the help and suggestions.
