Day at drags
I headed out to Speed World March 31, 2006. There was a club event of exotic cars running a day at the drags. I was bummed with having a brutal head wind blowing right down the strip and mid day temperatures, but all in all it was car for car and tons of fun. Here are a few of the cars that were there with approximate times for the day. Everyone was up several tenths from the pervious drag day. Conditions were strong head wind, 1250 ft, 30.05 pressure, about 30% humidity and track was about 80F mid day.
SL600 RENNTech plus exhaust and drag radials, 675HP/910TQ, low to mid 11s SL65 AMG RENNTech on drag radials, 705HP/980TQ, low to mid 11s Other AMG modified and stock cars, low 12s to low 13s Evolution Motorsports Porsche 996tt GT800, drive line malfunction Several other modified Porsche 996TTs, high 11s to high 12s Modified Corvette Z06s, mid 12s to low 13s and some others. Here's my favorite picture of me at the staging lines with the Twin turbo Viper. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...elby_cobra.jpg I didn't want to launch hard, but with a good pass, 1000 to 1500 rpm starts I was around 11.1xx @125 ish with 1.7 ish 60fts. |
And who won your race in picture? Any other cobra times?%/

You didn't say what year Z06. Numerous bone stock 06 Z06s are routinely running 11.4's to 11.8's all day long. I've seen an 11.1 and 11.2 with no mods except drag radials. Traction on launch is the limiting factor. 12's are rare.....13's unheard of, except for really bad drivers.

Clay, that is a half mile track.:3DSMILE:

http://www.scottsdaleexoticcarclub.c...4vs.vette.html The C6 Z06 is a wonderful car and may run good times on certain tracks under certain conditions, which would typically be a cold day near sea level on drag radials with 4000 rpm clutch dump. That type of performance just wasn't going to happen the day we were there with a good 20 - 30 mhp head wind at 1250 ft and 80F+ track temps. Here's an elevation temp correction page if you wanted to put the times into perspective, but that wouldn't include a head wind. It's all relative. http://www.modulardepot.com/density.php |

Greg,
You have a really quick street roadster. Thanks for posting! I have a bone stock 95 Cobra 5.0 engine (245 HP) in an IRS FFR and on street tires 1.9 sec. 60 ft. and 13.089 1/4 time. Bought MT D/R's but have not tried yet. Hoping for 12.7. Not enough HP to get much better I don't think. But we enjoy the car a lot. Sounds like you enjoy your car a lot, too...that's the name of the game! Larry |
Way to go Greg. Would you MT's not hook up for you? I've been thinking about going to them after my Drag TA's wear out. My tires wil hook up pretty well, if I get them heated. 1.7 sec 60' times are real respectable, expecially for easing it out of the gate. The track must have been not too concerned about tech that day. They kindly asked me to leave the facility after going quicker than 12.0.

Karl,
Was that before or after they kicked Jeff off when they thought it was you? :) :) Greg.. Glad you had a good time. We really need to schedule another club day out there. Karl and Greg, if you are going to the picnic we can talk about it. Mike |

The SL600 RENNTech was one of the fastest cars out there with its V12 twin turbo and mods. He did the burnout right and was running 275/17 ET Street drag radials. He was actually running 32 psi. It stuck hard with traction control off. The car has around 700 ft lbs at the wheels torque at 3000 rpm for corrected Dynodynamics numbers. Engine tourque is 910 ft lbs. Here's a pass of the two of us when he caught me sleeping at the tree. LOL http://www.scottsdaleexoticcarclub.c...avs.sl600.html |
I'd seen that MB when I went to Speed World to watch the Pinks taping. What a sleeper! He was going consistant 11.0's that day.
