steering kick-back

Steering wheel kick-back what is normal?
My SPF has a slight steering wheel kick-back at times, maybe at 60-70 mph and depending on road surfaces. Letting go of the steering wheel, steering wheel movement is maybe ½ of an inch, the car tracks straight, wheels are balanced and alignment is with in specs. I run on Michelin Pilots, 17 inch 295 front, 335 rear, air pressure cold is 21 psi.
I checked all of the linkages, no play in steering box, with front end jacked up, a slight turn on steering wheel turns front tires.

Were the tires road force balanced? That will usually fix the problem if the tires are round.

Have you had your bump steer checked? The car might be aligned with proper toe to go straight but when you hit a bump, if there is a toe change, the steering wheel and car can move a little. This is common for a cobra as they are a cut and paste vehicle that comes without the proper bump steer set up, but it is easy to fix.

John - I'll be home next week if you want to come over - I'll call you. John A. will also be there, and I'm sure he'll be glad to look at your car as well. If anyone could diagnose it, he could. FWIW, I have zero bump steer in my car.

I'll second Mike's comments about Olthoff. He's very good about discussing things like this - was very helpful to me when I had some questions while I was doing my installation.

Tom
