Hey Bill and Dave, I was there all day Friday and Saturday in the Shelby/Superformance/Roush Booth. The smoke from those drifters overwhelmed us once in a while and when their demonstration ended the crowds would flood toward us to the west. Lousy weather-UGH. Froze for 2 days.

3 ring circus Bob and Bill...I really don't take to big crowds..My Brother got me free bidders guest passes.. That's the only reason that I went..I also got to see the Super Coupe at Russo & Steele..I fell in love with it and wish that FFR would reproduce that one....I love the round lines and the back of that car DAVE

I went on Sunday along with my cute co-driver. We walked the entire event and two things really caught her eye. 1) the drifting event and 2) the side by side dyno pull of the to Mustangs. She even went over to the driver of the CHP car and told him so. I, on the other hand, thought it was interesting but a waste of good tires. It did draw the largest crowd outside of the auction block tent. Over all it was a nice to do but a future pass. Been-there-done-that.

davids 01-22-2007 03:02 PM

Mike, I watched the show and talked with one of the drivers for quite awhile..He definitley knew of Factory Five and likes the racing FFR...dave..I agree....I don't see too much of that sport...

Hiker 01-23-2007 10:34 PM

We were there on Saturday and won the drawing for a ride. My sister's husband went for a spin with the top driver in highest HP car. He said it was amazing.

Upon entrance to the auction they made me put my video camera back in the car. I guess they didn't catch quite a few others with theirs though. It was funny to see a wall of people with video cameras and video phones all lined up at side of the drifting event. My sister took a video with her phone.

davids 01-24-2007 11:09 AM

Greg and Hiker , do you have anymore pics of the drifting ..if you do can you send them to cobraone@cox.net.. I've sent Tony Brakohiapa, the driver of one of the red Mustangs that did the drifting, to him....He wrote to me and asked if he could get some pictures... Dave

ItBites 01-24-2007 11:50 AM

While drifting is not my cup of tea, I do enjoy any motorsports event that requires high power, produces smoke and noise, and requires driving skill.

Maybe I need to get cable TV or maybe I need to get out more...

Excaliber 01-24-2007 10:08 PM

Drifting in the USA started FIRST right here in Hawaii, and thats a FACT! No doubt the strong Japanese influence we have here on Island. I used to Drift my Excalibur. The Japanese LOVED seeing that. The largest attended racing event EVER at Hawaii Raceway Park was the first sanctioned Drifting Competition event with imported Japanese cars\drivers comepeting against the local talent. Ok,,, we got our ass kicked big time.

Just before I 'spun out' after getting off the pavement and doing some 'agricultural' work...

The back end is all ready coming around and I just missed the trash cans! :Dhttp://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...l_burn_out.jpg

Hiker 01-25-2007 01:11 PM

Yeah... I have about 10 more pics. The only good thing about watching those cars was the V8 sound. If they would of been a bunch of ricers, I doubt half the people would of been there.

davids 01-28-2007 01:33 AM

HIKER, thanks for the drifting pictures.. Dave

JB34 01-28-2007 11:14 AM

Drifting is nothing more than driving your car sideways, but in control, and hoping that you don't encounter your steering lock. It isn't for me either, but I have to agree with Eric that it takes a lot of skill and that alone should get your respect. (Eric, don't get cable, just get out more: haven't seen you in soooo long, I can't remember what you look like...just kidding)

While it isn't the fastest way around a track, it is a total hoot when you are the one behind the wheel. I can't imagine any Cobra driver saying they don't find it thrilling being sideways. I still remember my early days in my Fiat-Abarth...all that thing did was drift. For those local guys that have never seen it live, here is a link to the NASA/ClubRacing drift schedule. These are held at the track with HPDE and race sessions.

Why not just drift on ice or dirt? That way I could race the family van. :D

Excaliber 01-28-2007 04:48 PM

Dirt maybe, whats ice? :D

Since the Hawaii Raceway Park closed "Drifting" is being done at Aloha Stadium parking lot, sanctioned events. February 3rd, 6:00 pm is the next event. I will be there as a spectator. While I drifted the Excal there is NO WAY I will Drift the ERA.

Hiker 01-28-2007 05:56 PM
