Hi and HELP!

Hi, My name is Dan, I live in Mesa. I just became the proud owner of an older car. It's a Contemporary Classic originally built in 1996. (I tried to attach a photo, but I guess I need to figure out how.) While the car comes with a hard top, I'd like to get a rag top also. I'm looking for information and suggestions on where to go. ( I know that leaves me wide open to shots, but I'm used to that.) Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,

Hey Dan, welcome!
I think Robbins makes tops for original Cobras and might fit CCX cars. Best to ask someone who has one to be sure. We have a CCX owner here in Tucson but everytime I see him, he's topless! (God help us all!)
Here's a link to Robbins: http://www.robbinsautotopco.com/

The top Shop may be able to help you. They are located at 14th St E. Indian School; south side of the street.

Thanks guys. I'll try Robbins and the Top shop. Although I like the idea of being topless, it's a little hot here in the summer time.

If you get one maide get the back window so it zips out. Trust me on this. You want the heat to find it's way out. Your head is protected from the Sun but the breeze goes by fast.

Larry, Thanks for the post. I appreciate the help.

Fitz, thanks for that tip. I'll make sure I follow it. Have you thought about A/C in your car? I friend suggested it, but it seems somehow wrong. Useful, but wrong.

Danr55,
The way I look at is, it is what is comfortable for you to have on your car. If and when you ever decide to sell your car and the person that wants it doesen't like air in it, they can change it. I have thought about it for mine but the way I look at it is I only use my air in my daily driver about 15 days out of the year. But I do not live in Arizona. The average summer temp in the centeral vally of Ca. is probably around 85-90. The max it has been that i can recall is 115 and that was not very long in duration. Now last summer was a differant story but as luck would have it, I was in Chi-town on buisness for that one.

I have had air in both my Cobras. 1 was in my old blue 347 soft top (sold to cindrrr in California) and now my hard top red one.

Phoenix is just so damn hot that on the hot days you just don't drive. You just sit in your garage and tell lies about how much HP you have to your neighbors. Nights are good sometimes. Driving in traffic with the air on tends to work the temp up a bit so I always turn it off. The main thing in Phoenix is to keep the sun off your body as it is brutal! The soft top at speed tended to pull the top up and put stress on the windshield like most convertibles. The hard top, on the other hand doesn't do that. The heats still gets in the cock pit for all the 1 million reasons cobras get hot. My is about as insolated as you can get too. I took out my back window and get some breeze though there.

I have often thought I would make or get someone to make a vent cover that would screw onto the vent dash with hose attached to put under your shirt. Now that keeps you cool. Wife fells closed in with the side windows up and so the air really is kind of useless. You really don't get the full benefits of air. A lot of money without the real blast of air unless you are in a closed sealed area. One suggestion would be to get vents to both your feet and face. These units are small so they fit so number of outlets is limited and it is a very tight fit under the dash. See my gallery.

Same thing with the Stereo. Great when you crank it up but a lot of money to hear music.....but it looks good and in 5th gear you can hear it find. It all comes down to money.

My car is set up for the track but I never go to the track. Go Figure? What can I say.....

Aaaah but isn't it a 'dry heat"..

Mull, I tried the shirt. The Freon can blew the hose off more then once. Then you have to change or walk around with that shirt on. I just need some nice looking hunny to sit next to me and wipe my head with cold rags......:D

I don't know about the shirt, but the nice looking honey idea sounds good. I'll have to start looking for one of those..

Karl Bebout 05-30-2007 07:34 AM

I've got a "nice looking honey" that always wants to ride along and wipes the sweat off my brow. She also hands over her pay check every two weeks and thanks me for having her. She also never complains when I drop some more money into the Cobra.

Dang, I hate it when the alarm wakes me from such a nice dream.

Personally, I'm glad it does get a little toasty here in Southern AZ. If it didn't, everyone in the world would want to live here. I've learned to just be careful about where and when you touch things outside and that its best to take a buggy ride either 'way early or after sunset.
