Wheel Balance

Got a shimmy at about 70 mph. Am thinking I need the front wheels balanced.
Who's good at this? Prefer this side of town if possible. Need someone that can balance from where they bolt on not out at the spinner side.

thanks

Any Discount tire can check the balance.

As Gordon says... Discount tire.

Dave:
Be warned, shake in a Cobra at 70 MPH is not always the result of being out of balance. Since most of these cars do not have a "rag joint" and since most tires are not dimensionally and/or dynamically round the shake will continue even following the balance.

Dave, Try Gunnells on Gilbert Rd. and McKellips. They do all the tire work on my car. They are really accomodating and fair.

Never had this before. Am thinking a wheel weight got knocked of when the brakes/rotors were done.

Dave

You may find that the wheels are not indexed, are they knockoffs? You may also find that one of the mechanics test drove the car with new brakes and locked the wheels and flat spotted a tire. Jack up the front, get a chalk pencil and spin the tire and see if it is out of round...

Gordon Levy 07-01-2008 01:43 PM

No they are not knock offs. I did the test drive and I didn't flat spot a tire. I do see the posibilities of a weight coming off.

Went to Discount. Not sure what the problem was but (after 3 gobacks fix, drive go back) they took the tires and rotated them around and now no shimmy. They did take all the old weights of and they guy said he didn't pay any attention as to whether some looked like they were missing.
Either way it's fixed.

thanks for the info.

if you use a discount tire place, make sure they can do "high speed balancing" rather than simple balancing.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 07-01-2008 04:50 PM

That's OK Ralph. Dave doesn't need a high speed balancing because Dave doesn't do High Speed. LOL
