Air Filter Clearance Problems
Well the car is finished (got licensed last week) except for we are still plagued with the hood not being able to close with the air cleaners from Roush. We have trimmed out the hole a bit bigger under the hood scoop but still not enough clearance(about 1 inch short). We thought we had a solution in a flat air filter made for the old weber setups with elastic to go around the trumpets and wire mesh over the filter element but apparently they are not made in the 4 inch size ( the size of the Roush Trumpets) The small block 8 stack has smaller trumpets so they aren't interchangeable. Has anyone got any other ideas for a flat/ultra low profile air cleaner for a 4 inch trumpet? I am anxious to get out on the road but I don't want to until we have a solution for this. ( something about leaves, dust and small children being sucked in to the fuel injection!)
Thanks

That looks like a good idea. Do not be concerned about reticulated foam filters like the edelbrock triangle. I have been using them for years. No problem. On dyno gave same results as no filter. Do not burn (they melt). I can replace mine for about 25 cents each. Yours, of course, would be more for the custom shapes.

Hey Bill. Long time no see. You well?
Also, although I could be wrong, I believe the stack injection can come with shorter stacks, then the air filter would not be a problem. Again, may be pleading dummy here.

I'm well! You well? The TWM stacks CAN be cut down. In fact, they must be cut down to use the TWM's. After cut down, it would open the door for other types of filters. However, cutting down the horns on the stacks messes with the air flow. Probably not enough that you would feel it. Anyway, how's the car? Don't know anybody wanting to go back to New Jersey for SAAC, do you? I have one spot left in my trailer!

All is well here. Car running great except it's 150 degrees outside. Oil temp is off the pin at startup.
New Jersey? No thanks. I think you gotta be a native to want to go there. Forgetaboutit.

Problem solved. Anthem motors found a set that fits and clears the hood and I found someone back east who custom makes the filter screens like the old webers used and can be made for any size trumpet. These are larger trumpets than the other Roush engines so there aren't as many option yet but in 24 hours I went from no filters to 3 different choices. Thanks to all for their suggestions.
The cobra is getting detailed (although with this weather around here it might stay in the garage for a little bit) gotta love the monsoons! I am finally taking possession on Monday!! I can't wait to learn to drive sideways!!
