Tombstone-Bisee Drive in September.

If you guys are interested in coming down our way we'll be happy to plan a day(s) drive. It could be a one day trip or a two day drive. I'd suggest a mid-September date.

How about Mikie C's Rte 191 run? Would take a weekend and lots of gas. Friday night in Globe or Safford and Saturday night in Eager or Showlow.

PLease allow me to reiterate.. That's wine country. Does it matter where Bisbee is as long as it's wine country?

John-Tucson 07-12-2008 05:10 PM

Hey Danr55, I like your attitude ! There are a couple of wineries in Elgin, One of them has a large second floor room available for meetings/lunches/etc. Elgin is south of I-10 off of route #83 to Sonoita then east about 10 miles. Bisbee is an historic mining town, lots of B&B's and small restaurants. (Prices set to accomodiate the tourest trade) Bisbee is about 7 miles north of Mexico, and 30 miles east, southeast of Sierra Vista. One thought might be to visit Elgin first, then the Buffalo Soldier Museum at Fort Huachuca , Sierra Vista, then on to Tombstone and spend the night at various B&B's in Bisbee. The next day, on a one night trip, would be up to Willcox, Safford, Globe and home. On a two night trip we could drive to Willcox, Safford, Clifton/Morenci, Hannagan Meadow, Eagar and spend the night at the casino in Hon Dah , Pinetop area. Next day drive home. If anyone only wanted to make it a one day drive with those on the two day, that person could meet everyone in the morning in Safford and go along up to Hon Dah or where ever that night's lodging would be. There are lots of options and many interesting places to see. ie. just east of Safford there is a tour of the large mine, eat in an old train dining car in Willcox, visit a mineral bath along hiway 191 near Safford, clothing optional, an old western town built for the movies north of Benson, on and on and on. I'm beginning to smell a three day trip.. sounds like a trip John. I vote for at least two nights.

Isn't the "Run to the Pines" car show in late September? Maybe plan something around that.

The "Run to the Pines" is the weekend of the 26th/27th/28th. Let me throw out a date and see what happens. How about the weekend of September 12th, 13th, and 14th.

John, You plan. I'll get the email out.

Dan, per email .. Not much interest at this time. Fuel costs and time off.

Mike

Danr55 07-14-2008 12:16 PM

Thanks Mike. After I suggested it, I thought about it and realized it's not $1.35 a gallon gas anymore.. Oh well.

Mike Brasfield 07-14-2008 01:09 PM

There is also the "Standing on the Corner" car show in Winslow the last weekend in Sept. We were in Winslow 3 weeks ago and, according to the locals, it is a huge show.
