Bringing Cobra from Canada Issues?
Has anyone brought a completed replica car from Canada to the USA? I may be interested in one for sale up yonder and am wondering if I'll encounter any issues. Input will be appreciated. Thanks, K.

If you do it in the winter time, watch out for the snow and ice.
Seriously, there is a thread on here somewhere that discusses the differences between taking a car north and bringing one to the USA from Canada. Seems the latter is the simpler. |

My Everette-Morrison came in from Canada and I had problems. You need the MSO or a letter from the factory saying that the car was built in the USA, they will not go by the manufacturers ID plates. Brett Morrison was very nice about the letter but would not give me duplicate MSO. They will issue you a new AZ Vin number. The other option I believe is to get a bonded title (about $300.00) Good luck Steve |

Buy the Cobra and bring it on down, find your plates from old orange and swap them out... and do not forget to do the same to the VIN plate.. wala! old orange in a new color and probably with the correct motor to boot! (dist up front where it is easy to get to)

Call US Customs and the EPA. If you get blessing from them you are golden. Years ago I looked at buying a new BMW in Ca-na-"da", and got all my answers from them.

Totaled and toasted. I'll be sending in the paper work tomorrow. I'm keeping the remains and will get started on the rebirth of my baby.

Out of curiousity, after they totalled it did you have to buy back the remains or did they let you keep it at no charge? I haven't had a car totalled in over 15 years.Hopefully you came out okay. I have "agreed on value" with Grundy but have been worried about this very thing happening. Good luck!

My insurance, American Hobbist, has been excellent. I have and agreed value and they are paying me the difference between that and what they received as a salvage bid. I could have let them have the car and received the total amount of my policy, minus deductable, but I have a special affection for the old beast and I want to put her back together. Thought about just using the drive train for another type of car, but then I wouldn't have the Chebby Powered Cobra entitling me to all the abuse I so unjustly receive from the local gang of hooligans.

It wasn't the motor that entitled everyone to give you a hard time. We all understand the cost savings with Chevy parts as there are so many around from them breaking down all the time. We understood the Chevy burnt orange paint job, somebody has got to have that color. It wasn't even the fact that it was one of the (if not the) fastest Cobras in AZ. NOPE! the BIG CHEVY embelim in the front might have pushed some over the edge but the real reason that we give you a hard time is because we like you. And you not having your Cobra out and about is going to be a problem. I am not sure if we can get Eric out enough to let you off the hook just yet. Be safe and get a new Cobra fast! (with a REAL motor) |
I'm not sure if there are lots of reasonably priced Chevy parts around because people like their power so well that they twist them a little too tight, or if they just last so long and don't break into pieces and become usless. Do have to say that is sure would be nice to have a distributor in the front of the engine, if I ever had to mess with it. I pretty much forget about it since I never have to work in the engine bay. Oh, Wait, youse guys don't know anything about that...
