Mikie, I guess at range, I could see how you could mistake a cow for a horse or maybe a large coyote. Are you and Dave S remotely related?

Karl, someday I'll tell you a story.

I hear cow tastes like chicken!

Mikie, The visuals I'm getting crack me up. I'm seeing this short, round, bearded guy booking out of someone's cow pasture, slipping and sliding in the cow pies, being chased by a farmer in bib overalls...through the creek, up the hill, disappearing into the woods.

I don't know about my Arizona brothers and their wimpy little pistols. I am working on a shoulder harness kinda thing for this bad boy. It is a single shot but with a 2 1/2" bore filled with ??? anything except cats. It should work well.

Karl Bebout 08-16-2009 01:41 PM

U-joint straps? Should hold it down.

A few years back we were having a play with a 2 gauge smooth bore flint lock out at the range. This thing fires a 31mm lead ball or you can load it with shot.

It was a bit unreliable initially as the flint wasn't sparking properly. It was a good laugh though. You certainly knew when it went off.

Steve, The cat reference is from ribbing I was getting some time ago from the crew. It was a long story but involved quiche and so on. It would make more sense if you were there for the rest of the banter.

Aussie Mike,
It looked like that kicked like a mule when it did go off. The cannon in the back of the car seemed about the size of my cannon. Is that a working model and what is the bore on it? Looks like a real hoot to touch that one off. I have not fired mine but have just located the percussion caps so maybe soon.

Karlos, Maybe straps would be the answer !! Jeff C

mikiec 08-17-2009 10:44 AM

Jeff,

What size caps does it take?

Mike

vettestr 08-17-2009 10:59 AM

Mike,
I have not seen them and only info was from emails back and forth...it uses a standard Lyle Cap ?? Do you know what a Lyle cap is? It is a 22 caliber percussion cap.

mikiec 08-17-2009 03:53 PM

Jeff,

Is this what you have? Say it uses a 22 blank.

Mikie,
Yes it is a Sculler line gun, the 28 inch model, circa 1940. The operating manual says I can send/shoot you a line some 350 yards away.

Danr55 08-17-2009 06:09 PM

Hey Murph, Is that why they are called flinchlocks? Looks like a hoot!
