California Identification number
Hello all, newbie here and just got my Butler
This is the number on right frame rail CA391670 ,originally this was a California car I bought this out of New York Do these number mean anything as far as what number in sequence it was made? And already having the Ca #s will it be easier to register? here in Ca thanks Ron |
That is the California Vin plate you are seeing. Mine is mounted right under the hood on the drivers side.
My car originally had SB100 certification, but once removed from CA, I guess it is worthless. |
I am currently going through the Ca registration process. I bought my CR 1991 in Neveada 2 weeks ago. It was a prior Ca car (over 10 years ago) so even though it has a CA vin, I had to start all over. here is what I have been through:
1) 5.5 hrs at the DMV 2) Finally convinced them I want to avoid smogging the car. 3) I applied for a Series 500 number from Sacramento (only 500 issued every year) and was issued one after 3 days of waiting. 4) I now have to go to the CHP to get a VIN verification 5) Then I have to make an appointment with BAR to meet with a Smog Referee so they can verify the make/model and equipment it has. I will get a certificate saying no smog is required. 6) Back to the DMV for the final registration paperwork to be issued 7) After all that, I need to fill out a SB100 application that once approved, should make the car smog exempt for the life of me owning it. I still am not sure how the final registration will read, I am assuming as a 69 Ford (the engine is a 69 351w out of a Mach One). Or maybe as a 91 which is the year of the replica. I think the pink slip will normally read the year that you register the car but it will also have SPCNS on it which tells anyone that is is registered as a Special Construction Vehicle under SB-100. Ron :) |
Op, please keep us informed of the procedures you go through to re-register a previously Ca. sb100 registered car that subsequently was sold and re-registered in another state.
Sb100 is supposed to be for the life of the car. I always thought it would follow the car back to California, along with the vin number. Needed info here for all of us that live in California and may be thinking about bringing an out of state (previous sb100 California car) back to California. |

My pink slip is from Nevada and reads 1991 ASVE Cobra. I was told even though the car was origonally registered in CA (my VIN starts with CA), because it has been over 10 years as an out of state (Nevada) registered vehicle....I have to go throught the registration process all over. My VIN didn't even show up in thier (DMV) VIN search. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy at the DMV is confused and has me going through additional steps, however at this point I have the 500 series and it looks like I will have no problem getting the smog exemption and SB100. I dont think the origional owner ever applied for an SB100, so maybe that is why this has been such a challenge. I will keep you posted on my progress. My next step is getting the CHP VIN verification done. I called Oceanside, San Diego and Capistrano to schedule an appt and they are booked to October! I was told to keep calling back to see if there are any cancellations. Sheeesh...nothing is ever easy when dealing with CA!! |
I think once the car is sold out of Ca, you'll need to apply for a new SB100 exemption. Were the car to have stayed in the state, you'd be smog free.
Make sure you have a closed PCV system in place, or you will fail at the BAR. This means you need to have a vent line going from the PCV on one valvecover to the intake manefold. And, you need to have a vent line from the other valvecover going to a filtered air source in your intake system. No matter what year your car is, this will be a requirement. God help you if your paperwork doesn't say it replicates a 1965 or earlier model. Good luck, and hang in there. |
