Jaguar brake flare type
Hi,
I need to make the brake lines for my cobra and was wondering if anyone can confirm for me that the Jaguar brake pipe flare is a bubble/ISO flare? Also all the kits i can find that do bubble flares say they are metric, will these still work for the Jag. If anyone can post a link to a flaring kit they used for Jag compatible flares it will be greatly appreciated. I dont want to buy the wrong one. Thanks. Liam. |
Just make up your lines and take them to a brake shop to have the ends fitted.
They will have all the right bits, right from the start. |
Whats a Bubble flare ? I've got jag brakes and made all my lines...I used the standard double flare for every end. All you have to do if make sure the fitting screws into the hole.
Just had a thought...is the bubble flare the one that looks like an acorn ? If so that's not what you want. |

I just found this picture. The ones i have are definately bubble flares. I just need to figure out if the kits that say metric actually are the same or not. Rob have you bled your brakes yet? The fitting itself is only there to hold the flare against the seat of the component. |
Mate my car isn't finished but it has over 250 k's on the clock. Just for rego tests. My brakes are all good and they have double flares. Look into the female end of each coupling and if it's a reverse cone. (ie: the taper points out toward you) then it's a double flare fitting. I'm pretty sure my brakes are series 2 stuff.

My local ABS charged me about $5 per flair to do them. I just bent up the lines to the right shape and marked the ends and they flared them and added the tube nuts to match my master cylinders etc.
It'd take a fair few flares at $5 each to justify buying my own brake line flaring tool. |

Thanks Aussie Mike, i think i will take your and Gav's advise. There is a good brake shop near by that helped me out with some braided hoses for my last car. I think i will go and see them. I can get a brake flare kit starting at around $30 but you can bet that it wont be as good quality as the pros. Leaks arn't worth the risk. Liam |
