Good work Alffie....

Congratulations , and hope to join you in the "LS7 Club" before too long.

Cheers,
Warren.

boxhead 12-29-2009 05:47 PM

Alffie, I am about to do the rego thing in the NT, can you pm me a phone number, I have a tonne of questions.

Heidelberg 12-29-2009 07:28 PM

Hey Alffie & Wazza,

How many LS7/Cobra combo's do you or any of the Club Cobra community know of?

I only know of 3, but there's bound to be a load more because once you get past the Ford engine/Cobra combination heritage/history issue, in my view, it's a really good combination.

Again, congratulations Alffie!

Regards.....Paul

I'm only aware of the three of us at this stage...
but I imagine there will be others before too long.

Then again.....I'd expect a lot of supercharged engines to start rolling out in Cobras over the next few years.

Turbo / Supercharging makes a lot of sense to me.

You can sure make a lot of h.p. just by cramming a bit of extra air down the throat of your engine...... I see it as the obvious way to go for all performance engines in the future.

Paul...we might end up being the "Old slow LS7 Club " !!

This is the cobra on its way to MVR looking a bit differnt to when I picked her up from Ian.
Noise test result of 93db was also a high light of the day.

MVR was very good from the start. It took 1 day for them to process my engineering paperwork! handed it in on Wednsday and got the call thursday morning (christmas eve) to go forward to next inspection with the TAC (MVR compliance) guy Tuesday then MVR test shed Tuesday afternoon had 5 guys under neath for about 20 mins at the test shed then brake test and noise test done rego pass paperwork then in to pay. $818.50 for 12 months rego and stuff!!!!
I suggest Boxhead you fly Jack down to Alice for the inspection rather than use interstate engineer as MVR know Jack very well and dont question his reports or opinion on the cars! My report had that the LS7 is Euro 111/1V compliant and the engine is installed as STD so they did not ask any questions about emissions, side pipes, other than noise test.
Owen Dutton is the guy that is doing the TAC stuff at the moment and is a mechanic so knows cars and is keen to get these cars on the road.
My VIN took 10 mins over the phone to get and all the TAC guy will do is check that your paperwork lines up with the car, basicly a compliance check
then to the test shed you go.
Check list LO1-3 is what you need to comply with so down load one from MVR website and go through it. Theres a few things that MVR will give an exemption from like door handles and locks, demister if you have no provision for a roof and child restrants ect.
Dont have any emissions testing if you have the STD ECU and engine set up other than noise test, remember ADR 37-01 is mid 90s so your fuel tank vapour set up can be the same as a VN commodore, make sure it is new and you will be fine.

Heidelberg 12-30-2009 01:16 AM

You're probably right Wazza...but I have to say that if our LS7 Cobras ultimately get categorised as "the old slow LS7 club", then that's fine by me!!

I couldn't handle any more anyway! What's the saying..."A man's got to know his limitations", and I'm very clear that mine is my ability as opposed to my Cobra's!

Regards.....Paul

Heidelberg 12-30-2009 01:19 AM

Alffie,

Your Cobra looks bloody good mate...well done!

I would have but I have tried numerous times to contact Jack and have had no luck over the past 16 months, Owen suggested I look at another engineer as he said that Jack was very unreliable. I have gotten onto another guy in Darwin and he has quoted me only $440.00 (inc tax) for the engineer report, so I will be flying him down, I hope late January early February.

My report had that the LS7 is Euro 111/1V compliant and the engine is installed as STD so they did not ask any questions about emissions, side pipes, other than noise test.

Alice Springs is in the same boat, no emission test meters so they go by the engine type and the ECU that runs the engine management.
Owen Dutton is the guy that is doing the TAC stuff at the moment and is a mechanic so knows cars and is keen to get these cars on the road.

Owen has been very helpful.

Mine is all standard VN

Some questions I had for you over phone are
Did you need to get a sticker for the dash advising vehicle is ICV and has not been crash tested?
Did you have to get tyre placard?

alffie 12-30-2009 02:50 AM

Hi Boxhead who is the other engineer up here?
The ICV placard didnt even get mentioned, I didnt need a tyre placard because they assume you know what wheel/tyre requirements your car has as you have built it and when/if you sell it the new owner has to go through the TAC process to get it registed in there name so they will be aware of what the car and tyre requirments are.

Alffie, here is my email, send me your number and I will give you a call.

Well done getting over the pits, what a great Christmas present.

LS7 wet sumps can now be had for around $13k. No need for the extra expense and plumbing for dry sump set up.

Who's going to be the first to drop in an LS9?
