Attaching sidepipes

Fellas

Just received a nice set of FFR pipes from the US, just for looks at the moment, at least until rego.

The brackets supplied with the kit are designed to fix vertically to a cross member on the FFR cars. However, my Harrison has a flat sheet fixed to the underside so unless i cut a largish hole in the sheet to pick up the chassis tube, they aren't going to work.

To save me racking my brain too much, how did any of you guys fix your sidepipes to the chassis and how'd you fix 'em at the manifold end as well?

thanks

I think I see your problem Gregg. The only Harrison pic I have is:

It has a different bracket.

I made brackets for my side pipes and used (from memory) Cortina gearbox mounts, I have the part numbers at home.

They then bolt directly to a flat plate under my car.

These first 2 pictures show the mounts and brackets, The round section is welded to the side pipe, and the nut you can see is what bolts to the plate under the vehicle.

Not a great picture but you can see the brackets welded onto the pipes.

Thanks fellas for the tips

Do you recon Merv that big brother is watching? There's so many references here to things 'falling off' cars that the fun busters would be kept busy tracking all of us terrible irresponsible people down;)

I have it on good advice that they are up this way.

Mounting side pipes

My pipes are mounted at the rear similar to Boxheads and at the front the flanges are bolted straight to the heads. with a very lumpy cam they rock and roll with the engine. Only thing to watch is the engine manifold bolts tend to back out but you can tell when this is hapening as you get a loud ticking noise like a loose lifter. I carry a spanner in the boot and nip up the manifold bolts when needed.
Cheers,
Bryan

Thanks Bryan

As mine will not be working the flange will not have connection to the extractors.......as there's quite a few car out there without working pipes, I'm wondering where the pipe flange attaches just inside the hole where the pipe enters the body.

I guess I'll need to weld on a bracket and fix this to the chassis somewhere.

That would be my guess Greg, mounted along its length (may as well do this part rubber mounted now if your going to run them live later)

And a mount from either chassis or body that will support the front.

I fitted 2 mounts to each side (bit of an overkill if you ask me now)
