2010 SHELBYFEST - Cobra Classes
At this stage it's the same as last year.
As per the chart below: if you run Performance tyres, regardless of road legal status. Your in the Anaconda class. We only had 3 Vipers last year, any less this year, they'll go in with the typans. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/classes.JPG |
Why are the LS1 motors not allowed in the 5.1L-6.0L class? They are push rod OHV motors.
With all the bleating that goes on here a Ford 347 or 351 is far better motor than the LS1. You guys worried or something?:p Cheers |
I am struggleing to understand that as well Michael.
The Ford guys prattle on about how good there Ford motors are, yet they must think that they either are not as good as the LS1 or so much beter they figured we need our own class to keep us happy? I am slow but would happily be in the same class as a stock 351 windsor or clevo, after all my LS1 is stock (Or atleast I have not changed any of its internals) Dyno guy recons that vacuum readings and smooth idle suggested stock cam. |
'Scuse my ignorance, but what are the classes for? A lap time is a lap time to me. Separate silverware per class?
|
Good point. If the Viper class has only a few numbers they will move to the adders class not the Taipans.
I'm happy to run 1970's iron against the new kids on the block. I've never really been one for classes on the track. But there is alot more drivers wanting classes than not, so as organisers we try to keep everyone as happy as possible. |
It sounds like I would be in Viper Class with my stock Ls1 and street tyres. From what I can gather a fully worked 6 litre on R spec tyres will be in the same class?
Ben |
Don't mind me Jason. I'm not fussed about classes. I'm just doing some Pre-Shelbyfest stiring of the Ford and Chev guys.
A bit of badge rivalry has to be better than some of the petty bickering on here lately. We need to lighten up. |
It’s all about the look boys, when you put those LS1 thingies next to these magnificent fords you will understand.
Phil |
I'll have to put that on a badge for the sides of the car "Powered by Thingie"
|
I honestly dont care, The fun is being there, If I wanted a plastic trophy that badly I could just buy one. :)

I'll put the word around... We got millions of them piled up here in Queensland... I'm sure we'd like to get rid of a few of the older ones to make some room for some new ones!!!!:LOL::LOL: Cheers, Wazza |
No thanks Wazza, I gave a couple away at the Nationals a couple of years ago.
|
If you have any old plastic trophies you don't need send them over to Holden, they are running low on raw material for there engine components....

Is the class thing a Shelby Fest regulation of some kind? Shelby was Ford after all for almost all of his racing years (Cobra, GT40, Mustang).
|
Hey Merv, Remember that Shelby went to Chevrolet first and they told him to rack off.
Then he went to ford........Shelby was a mercenary and still is ! I'm a FORD fan though ! |
Shelby put his name to anything if there was a dollar in it!
From Wiki:- Shelby Dodges and Dodge Shelbys Shelby began working with Dodge at the request of Chrysler Corporation chairman, Lee Iacocca, who had previously been responsible for bringing Shelby to the Ford Mustang. After almost a decade of tuning work, Shelby was part of the team responsible for the Dodge Viper. The following cars were modified by Shelby, and bore his name, but still sold under the Dodge marque: * 1983-1984 Dodge Shelby Charger * 1985-1987 Dodge Charger Shelby * 1984-1986 Dodge Omni GLH The following cars used Shelby-modified parts, but were not overseen by Carroll Shelby: * 1986 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z C/S * 1987-1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z * 1988-1991 Dodge Daytona C/S * 1989-1991 Dodge Daytona Shelby * 1988-1989 Dodge Lancer Shelby * 1989-1990 Dodge Shadow Competition * 1991-1992 Dodge Spirit R/T * 1992-1993 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T The following cars were modified and sold as Shelbys: * 1986 Shelby GLHS (based on the Dodge Omni GLH) * 1987 Shelby GLHS (based on the Dodge Charger Shelby) * 1987 Shelby Lancer (based on the Dodge Lancer) * 1987 Shelby CSX (based on the Dodge Shadow) * 1988 Shelby CSX-T (based on the Dodge Shadow) * 1989 Shelby Dakota (based on the Dodge Dakota) * 1989 Shelby CSX-VNT (based on the Dodge Shadow) |
