Now that's a great use of money ....

750hp 02-22-2010 02:55 AM

Do you not like the plate, or not like the price?

I guess it all depends on your perspective Merv, and your tolerance for things that others would deem inaccurate.

If the word "die" is spelt incorrectly on a prestige plate, does it make it more pointless than replacing the letter B with a rounded "8" on a $400+ personalised plate?

On the other hand, if you just don't like the message on the plate, then you have one angry Pommy engineer to deal with... Nah, joking. To each their own.

Merv and Sharon 02-22-2010 03:03 AM

Thanks for your view on my plate too Craig. I'm pretty tolerant of most things but a starting price of $10,000 seems somewhat extravagant, given that it is still a number plate, but I guess it defines the buyer.

Rebel1 02-22-2010 03:20 AM

Gawd, I own the personalized plates " LAW 08" I wonder if some legal type will give me $10,000 for them. :JEKYLHYDE

stephen low 02-22-2010 03:28 AM

Might sell mine to a steam roller owner!!

750hp 02-22-2010 04:14 AM

I agree - $10K is a lot more than I'd be prepared to pay for ANY plate, regardless of what is on it. To some people, $10K is a drop in the ocean in the scheme of things...

I know a guy who bought "KILN IT" (Killing It) plates. Now everyone gives him grief about being in the pottery business!

plates

When I brought my car the guy selling it said a lot of people enquired about just buying the plates. The owner said sure you can buy the plates for the current asking price and they come with a free Cobra.
Cheers,
Bryan

Similar Craig:MECOOL:

2DY FOR is mine

$10k wow:eek::eek:, makes you wonder - I will watch with interest.

Plates are big business (even here in Aus). It's surprising what people will pay for a plate.

My STi has STI R (r-spec) and I was offered $5k within a month of it being on the car, not bad considering it cost me $2,400;)

Merv
Whats up with your avatar. Is that what you actually wanted your cobra to look like.:eek
Did you put the boat motor in it also.
Bruce

Merv and Sharon 02-22-2010 10:40 PM

Just a bit of fun Bruce. Nothing looks less like a Cobra. I just liked the look on the guy's face! No boat motors, just a Ford with a new cam and heads going on ...

How are things in Texas? Still cold there?

BMK 02-23-2010 12:39 AM

Rebel1

How do you view an avatar ? All I see is a tiny 10mm picture.

Merv and Sharon 02-23-2010 02:08 PM

I guess that is it Rob. The person who posts it sees the larger version. There are some funny, some odd ones and even some mobile ones across the Forum. There are also many the same.

Merv
I work in Reynosa a Mexican border town. Live in Texas
There were 40 people killed in Reynosa in last 2 days as the drug gangs fight for position. Other than that lifes pretty boring. I am still wating patently for some one from Aussie to buy a car for me, I can put in my garage for 1 year than send across to Aussie under my name then give it to them. Good deal me thinks.
Bruce

Merv and Sharon 02-24-2010 07:58 PM

That sounds a great deal for someone Bruce. And it would be run it too! Can't see any flaws in that process! Some dangerous places in the US and a fast car could be useful.

Take care

750hp 02-25-2010 12:22 AM

Bruce - as nice as it sounds to drive someone's car for 12 months, the process for bringing it in is very heavily controlled to ensure that whoever had it overseas is the only person who can bring it to Australia (and you have to prove that you're coming here to live for good:

Criteria, use of the vehicle

The vehicle must have been available to you for use in transport. This means that the vehicle must have been available to be driven by you, at all times during the 12 month qualifying period. The vehicle should be registered (in your name) and garaged (proximate to your residence) throughout the 12 month qualifying period, so that you could, if needed, drive the vehicle. In addition, you must have held an appropriate licence to drive the vehicle overseas.

Criteria, citizenship and visa requirements

Applicants must fall into one of the following categories. You must:

be an Australian citizen; or
have applied to become an Australian citizen; or
be an Australian permanent resident (eg, hold a permanent visa); or
have applied to become an Australian permanent resident (eg, applied for a permanent visa); or
hold a visa that allows you to apply to become an Australian permanent resident (eg, hold a temporary visa that allows you to apply for a permanent visa); or otherwise
be entitled to remain in Australia indefinitely (eg, be a New Zealand citizen).
In addition, applicants must intend to change their residence. Applicants must have been resident in a foreign country (throughout the qualifying period of 12 months ownership and use of the vehicle) but now intend to become Australian residents on a permanent basis and remain in Australia indefinitely.

Back to Qld number plates, the email came out today regarding the 2010 PPQ plate auction. Pretty weak options this year...
