I have done the autopsy on the big bang at the Winton Shelby Fest.
It let go at 5500rpm with no warnings at all. I had only been taking it to 5500 as it was breaking down after that (missing ).
The crank is in three pieces, and there was no sign of any seizures or nuts or stuff letting go. The crank had just had enough, and decided to scare me to bits. At least it was good enough to wait until the last couple of laps. and one must look on the bright side of life as i wasn't going to go out for the last laps , but Warwick called me a cissy, so I had to go. If I had not have gone it probably would have blown up in the first run :(at Morgan park in a couple of weeks time.:(

So from this Denis one assumes oil surge/no oil pressure was not the culprit..?

Cheap in the USA. A little more expensive here. Plus you have to find room to fit them. Mines' not yet plumbed but its wired to activate on pressure loss as well as to prime the engine before turning it over.

Don't know if anyone has seen these for windsors (I've not) but for the SR20 Nissan motors when drifting you can get swinging oil pickups. Combined with a custom sump the oil pickup swings with the cornering force to go where the oil goes. I have no idea how well it works but they seem to be a popular item.
