Ford EECIV Sensors
Just started to old girl for the first time this week and it's running like an old goat. On startup it wont idle unless i carefully feather the throttle and it stalls under quick acceleration. No load as yet, still just on the hoist.
Before i head off to a local tuner, I'm curious to know with some of the EEC sensors removed by a guy that trimmed the engine loom down for me if all the required inputs are there to get it running properly. The Ford Fuel Injection site has heaps of info but doesn't really address what can and can't be deleted (at least as far as i can see) Specifically, the Air Charge Sensor (ACT) and VSS are deleted, plus as the exhaust is not complete no HEGOs plugged in either. I'll set up and get the fault codes from the EEC later this w/e. Thanks Greg |
ACT I am guessing is what in Holden is Air Intake Temp Sensor?
I can only advise reffering to LS1 If so then you will need this as it lets the ecu know what the air temperature is going into engine (my car ran better when I fitted this) In Holdens case it defaults to minus 55 degrees, so simulates a cold start (choke on) VSS is required for the ecu to tune itself while driving, so may not be having an effect in your case And lastly, without the O2 sensors then you will have a running rough as I think from memory it defaults to a very rich mixture to prevent the possablilty of leaning out. |
Thanks Boxy
Yeah ACT is Air Sensor, my engine came with no MAF, intake or throttle body so i'm not even sure where this sensor is located on a Musang 302. I've also eliminated the EGR valve and actuator as i seems common to do this Maybe someone with a Ford can help on this. Once the exhaust is done and hegos are in I'll be able to get a better idea of how it runs. Greg |
Greg did you find anything on the site I sent before:
http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=1 Also not sure if the Mustang harness info relates to your motor at all. However, these guys have lots of connectors, sensors and even MAFs. Which MAF did you use? http://www.rjminjectiontech.com/?p=10 |
how smart was yr guy who stripped the harness
i think if u paid him u should be able to get him to fix it another thing is where di u get air flow from as there are afew different ones another thing is get screwdriver and use it like stethoscope on each injector as some might be stuck closed due to enigne sitting for so long but yr auto elect should know htis if he does this often heheheheeh no spd and no o2s it should still run right end of the day it should run ok with ignition and injectors and tps and coolant and airflow/air temp so anyhting else should not effect it did the wiring guy fit a diag plug as most early fords and hodlens are a pain to diagnose very crude system id be checking for air leak and is it blowing black smoke out the back u might have a problem with mismatched parts i always see this when they person tries to buy the cheapest motor on the shelf then spends another grand getting the bits for it the old ford motrs in usa change so often so maybe find someone in usa that can match up part numbers for u |
yer that site is ok
bougfht few bits of em awhile ago they dont have gbox plugs thou :) |
I know Sideshow I was after one of those
|
I had a pretty good look thru the sites Merv......they've been a great resource. Looks as though i may need that air temp sensor, just need to find where it's located though:o
sideshow....good to hear from you Firstly, I'm the autoelec that i'm using so that's where the problems start:confused: Call me crazy, but I'm one of those tenacious b*stards that tries to fix everything myself.........then ring one of you poor blokes when i truly screw things up. Like most of us crazy kit builders on this forum we get satisfaction from having a go:) Back to your points.......unfortunately the guy that stripped the loom down for me 2 years ago was at Harrison Cobras and is no longer......given what i know now I would have gone another way....... When you say air flow do you mean the MAF? It's an 80mm Pro M designed to suit the Mustang eng. Everythings connected that you mention other that airflow/charge temp. I'll try the injector trick and then pull them out for a good clean up. I have not got a diagnostic light set up but will get codes from the EEC with a test lamp. No smoke Don't know about cheap.....it was about the right price for what i got, lots of room for tricking it up with go fast stuff after rego:p Thanks for your advice |
Merv
Re the plugs, i got them all from www.eficonnection.com Prompt, helpful and only a few bucks each. |
yer i must be sick
ive been on here twice this week if i stay longer ill get cranky again hehhee not sure on the air flow u got i know its aftermarket but thru all my diags these motors change regularly thur the years and some have mafs and some dont they really went thru some changes from 88 to 96 anyway pull off a coil lead at a time and see if all cylinders a working i recon u either have stuck injectors or foulled plugs afew bucks well by the time u buy a 10 to 15 dollar plug plus postage turns out to be around 25 bucks i guess i wasnt ripping anyone off anyway but thats ok i have a good general idea of how cobra guys work these days as we have worked on afew and also fixed afew fk ups that others have tried to do and i treat all cobra guys the same except for the few that have always been on my side |
Ohhhh come on sideshow.........we don't take sides
All your advise is appreciated, it's just the barb on your tail :) I got a set of 3 plugs.......saved me about a carton of beer**) Maybe not worth it given the grief you gave me! I'll get back to checking those basics, mine's MAF, and as you say trying to work thru wiring diagrams is a nightmare as Ford kept changing wire colour codes for a start. |
