Concreters

Anyone out there in teh Concrete game?

I am building a new shed and so far all local concreters are busy and over quoting.
I have been advised by shed supplier that going by past sheds in my size then I should expect between $12k to $15k, prices so far have been way over that.
So does anyone want a paid holiday to the red centre?

Concrete

Hey Boxhead,

My slab 17m x 9m was $24k.

This was for the site cut ( clean soil only ), metal, poor, pumps etc etc.

150 mm @ 32Mpa with 500mm footings.

You can save a bundle by doing the preparation yourself and have them to the skilled part. Local code here has gravel, moisture barrier, sand, and rebar. I put all that in along with expansion foam on the sides and forms at the doors.

I bought all materials and hired the pumper. I found a concrete contractor that would do the pour and finish for $1/sq.ft.USD. I saved at least $10k of a $15k job. Maybe they are all busy, but you might find someone that wants to make a few easy dollars on a Saturday.

My shed is 16mx12m and 4.6m wall height.
Quote I have is for 100mm thick 130mm in hoist and mezzanine area (4mx12m) with second level of reo, plastic water barrier and scalps (blue metal) base at 50mm deep, footings at 450mmx450mm 300mm deep and a 150mm boxing around outer walls of slab.
25mpa with 20mm rock.
He advised that 25mpa when dried and set will be higher.
He did a slab a few weeks ago at 32MPA and 5 days later when tested it came in at 45MPA.

I paid $20,000 inc for 3 slabs recently:
1) 3x3m x 100mm garden shed F72 mesh no footings
2) 10x7.5m x 125mm carport with 300x300 footing surround F82mesh
3) 18x12m x 150mm machinery shed with 800 round piers 900mm deep F92 mesh and a roller door track.

I reckon you are getting touched boxhead. I would suggest leveling and metal dust prep yourself with bobcat from Coates (about $300/day) and then hiring formwork from coates and setting up yourself. It is not that hard.

Concrete around here works out at about $400 - $440 per cubic metre (poured) depending on the finish required.

I am thinking the same thing Sloth, the one quote I have is $25300
I can get a bobcat and operater for $100 per hour, he says about 3 hrs and he should be done.
I did not think about hiring formwork.
My brother in law is comming over from Atherton to help me put the shed up (no worries there), he says he can do the slab (I am a little sceptical as I dont think he realises how big it is).
So I might talk to the concrete fella and see what he would charge to do the pour, level and finish.

I was not real happy with the boxing on mine. Kind of an afterthought by the concreter. He only used 3"x2" pine and concrete leaked out under it all over.

If I was doing the boxing again I'd be buying 19mm structural chipboard flooring and ripping it down to the desired height on the saw bench.
