Rubbing - cant find source
This is a tricky one so am looking for suggestions - any suggestions will do.
When I have been driving for about 10-15 mins and things are warmed up if I turn left around a corner I have a rubbing noise. I have checked high and low front and back for any signs of rubbing and cant find anything. I have even come to a stop with my front wheels turned in the direction when it was rubbing and couldnt feel any contact points. The only thing I was thinking of and please bear with me as I know nothing about LSD's. Could it be the LSD (mine is a brand new VE SS LSD) when I turn a corner the back wheels are going at different speeds and the LSD is making the noise? Doesnt make the noise when I turn right though - go figure. Any ideas? Thanks Rgds Gregg |
Has your diff got additive in it?
Mine was quite notchy before i put it in. What size rear tires are you running Greg? |

Not 100% sure if your body is the same as the older one in the wheel wells but I remember Mike having issues with his rears rubbing the innner guard with tyres that size.
You would see the marks though I am sure if the tyres where rubbing. If you can only hear it when turning and not if you are going over a bump it sounds to be diff or maybe even drive shaft related? |
A disc rotor Gregg? Perhaps not out of alignment, but rubbing on a brake hose or something else at the front?

Gav, I had that once on the passenge side when my rear springs were 350lb - 400's fixed that. I could see the rub marks. No rub marks on the drivers side at present.
Merv, I thought that one too, I stopped with my front wheels turned to the point where it was rubbing (I was actually coming into the driveway so it was convenient) and couldnt find anything. The two things I am suspicious of are the diff and maybe my camber is "too negative and the top of the tyre is hitting a top chassis/frame rail that looks like it has some rub marks - I am going to take the shocker off and move the rear wheel through its suspension arc and see at what point does it rub (if it does) the top rail - to me it looks like it would have to travel a fair bit. Not just a slight lean into a corner. Anyway these little things are the fun things to work out. Thanks for the suggestions. Rgds Gregg |
Check the rear brake rotor backing plate.
When I recently fitted the bump steer kit in teh back of my car, I must have knocked the plate as I had a rubbing noise in my r/h rear, did it in a straight line but was louder when I turned. Maybe yours is not contacting as much? |
