Starter Motor
Looking for a price guide Starter for Ford V8 Windsor 5L Ex Au Falcon Ute 02/03 Build.
Have been quoted by local Bosch service centre Sunshine Coast $ 260--00 as old unit too expensive to clean and service seems a bit rich. Any thoughts?? |

I would go for one of the gear reduction types Trevor. The Castle ones are more expensive but better quality. I fitted one over the last few days and the old 'clapper' is on the shelf!

The starter units aren't cheap. I found a fellow down here in Victoria off ebay who could supply me just the solenoid unit very cheaply, when I got overkeen tightening up my electrical connections in original build. I snapped off the contact and was sure I'd have to buy a whole starter. Recall my initial research into those prices was frighteneing but am also pretty sure looking at the same fellow's starter prices by comparison he was a whole lot cheaper. Get yourself a gear-reduction starter if you need to replace your starter. They are available anywhere from 3:1, 4:1, 4.4:1 and even 5:1. The gear-reduction ones are smaller, and will spin higher compression motors more easily, especially when the motor is hot. The higher the compression, the more gear you need. They should generally last a lifetime. I like the RobbMc starter, a 5:1 gear. They are expensive, (robbmcperformance.com) but living in a hot climate and running 11:1 compression, I want a strong starter. Good Luck |
