Front wheel Drama

For you ingenious types out there.............

I've created my own drama with one of my Dragway Halibrands:o

One of the front wheels is stuck on it's hub:CRY:

What's happened is the spinner mounting piece is tight round my outer wheel bearing hub (stuck on the flange).

I've cut off the mounting piece (which I now need to source a new one), but still cannot shift the wheel.

Tried warming up the wheel centre, using a block and tackle to pull the wheel, but still no joy. It's on tight!

Any ideas before I take it down to the tyre garage to sort out???

stuck wheel

Hi Peter sent you a pm.

Finally fixed my stick wheel!

Undid my wheel stud hub and removed the hub with the wheel. Knocked out my wheel studs and with some force freed the wheel hub.

Now to re-assemble%/

Appreciate the assistance Scott - very annoying as we were going to make a rare show at Hope Island this morning. Will line up for next month.

I don't suppose anyone has a spare dragway halibrand centre lying around???

I've send an e-mail to Dragway to see if they stock them.

Just another day in maintaining our beloved *****es:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

"Maintaining the Breed" as the name of the famous MG book.

A few years ago they still had a couple of spare centres for the Halibrands. You might still get lucky.

I have a complete set of wheels, so don't want to part them out.

What was tight ? The studs or the hub ? Maybe the hub needs a bit machined off or if it's the studs maybe the next size up drill for the stud holes .

Rob,

It was the centre piece which holds the dragway spinner on that caused the problem. It was tight over the wheel bearing hub jamming the wheel on.

I've never liked these centres as the only way to make them secure other than what I tried to do is to silicone them in, which is a pain should you need to get tyres balanced.

Just an update on the Dragway centres.

Called in at Dragway Woodridge today (back to the seventies!).

They do 2 types of Halibrand centres, one a soft alloy push through centre (which mine was) being glued into position - great for wheel balancing - Not:eek:

The 2nd type is a billet machined profile fitted to the wheel centre by allen nuts - bought myself 4 at $60 a piece.

Now to get rid of my excess glue:rolleyes:

Good on you Pete.

Never mind "former glory", post pics of the carnage from when you tried to get it off in the first place!

Craig,

After pulling the car across the garage with a block and tackle taking a photo wasn't at the top of my list:p

I've never had a wheel stuck on before - life is an experience.

Those Dragway inserts are a tight fit with the front Jag hub assembly - I had to shave the allen screws down and remove the outer hub grease nipple just to make them fit.

And Dragway said they were made for Jag running gear:confused:

I am just getting my Dragways. Hope all is well!
