GPS Tracking
I am looking at fitting a GPS tracking device to my car. Does anyone have knowledge of these systems? I would prefer a self managed system.
There seems to be quite a few companies around offering a managed service but my knowledge of these devices is very limited. Doug |
Hey Doug,
This was one of the sponsored links under your posting... Is it a coincidence?.... Anyway... Looks like its what you're looking for.... http://ezy2c.rtrk.com.au/?scid=36380..._id=5125088929 I just phoned he rep, and had a good chat. Sounds like a good system , and not a ridiculous price , considering what it means to lose the car after sometimes YEARS of getting it all together. Under $900-00 for everything initially installed ( Includes 1st. year access and GST )....and under $200-00 p.a. for the access to their system and updates. Also, might be something cool to include in on-selling a nice car. Cheers, Warren. |
Just always leave your iPhone in the car. That way with "Find my iPhone" you can find the car! On the other hand ....

Wazza, I have been trying to find a true GPS tracking system for our fleet of work cars.
sadly the one you linked uses the 3G phone system or can be used with staelites but does not record Odometer readings (main thing I require) because best they can offer with Satelite system is a report every hour and the machine just calculates points between dots. So not 100% acurate, and not sure if acurate enough for my needs. Most of the cars in our fleet end up parked in exactly the same spot, so it could be out driving for 50 minutes (at 130kph) and then parked back at same place behind clinic. Looks like a great system if you are within 3G coverage. I have spoken to them and they are checking if they can use the vehicles electric speedo signal to get a more accurate odo reading. |
Lojack.....let the Cops find it.

Street Machine had an article on car alarms including GPS units last month or the month before. I'll check tonight to see if it has any more info...

Further to my previous post,
The system also has a number of other features, including Decelerometer = sends a signal incase of sudden stop - ie an accident Roll over trigger Emergency button, sends signal same as epirb to any nominated contacts (as many contacts that you wish to have) |
Check Rojone they have been around for at least 10 years and their early systems were based on the mobile phone which gave street directory coordinates and the vehicle could be immobilized directly from the mobile phone...you could also talk to the vehicle occupant. There was no back to base monitoring so no extra fees...you had total control of the whole thing.
I'm sure their product is far more advanced now...the price was good too. Havalook ! |
There are a number of different types and prices on ebay. This one is a $110.
